Firstly, I searched and couldn't find a topic made that was asked about this website. Secondly, I apologize if it's off-limits to talk about websites here.
I've been checking out the website: http://japaneseusedcars.com (http://japaneseusedcars.com/) for a while now, and I was wondering if anyone here has ever had any dealings with them, or know someone who has. I know it's around $1,500 just to be able to participate in the auctions, but that money can also be used towards a purchase.
They have some very nice cars in their lists and it got me very interested in the possibility of purchasing one via an auction. Now, I fully understand that importing a JDM car to the US is a veeerry difficult process laden with obstacles. I have no questions about importing, only purchasing through this process.
Also, if anyone has any knowledge about the site, what would be the estimated winning bid on an average S15 or R-32? Thanks for the help!

Yes, I'm 17. I do actually make money. I'm asking in the sake of research so that in 2-4 years when I have my money right, I won't have to waste more time b/c I didn't do my homework while I had the chance.
Believe me, I do my research. I know it costs alot of $ to import & all that good stuff. I'm not asking anything about importing. I just want to know more about this site.

All I know about this site is that I got 2 free shirts from them at Formula D one day. That means they must be legit! Hahaha. At least their name is out there though.

I have spent may a night touching myself at the prospect of buying an S15 for only 8 large on that site. The only downfall is that you would never be able to get half those cars registered here because the us gov't hasn't crash tested a majority of them. Therefore, they would not be legal to drive on the street. Now if you wanted to build a carpet queen, or a rare track car then by all means, go for it. If you do some digging on that site they have links to the gov't site that lists cars that are legal for import and registration to drive on the street.
I'm not sayin you won't find any that can be imported, all I'm sayin is, make sure that you have done all the research possible before
1.paying the membership fees for the site
2.talking a certified importer to import the car for you.
3.paying the $5,000 plus for a container on a container ship.
4.actually purchasing the car.
4.waiting for nearly a year for the car to make it out of customs
5.getting it inspected and registered.
I wish you all the luck in the world.

Take it from me...I purchased my Rhd S14 when I was 18 even if you can afford the initial cost of buying/shipping/legalizing/customs charges you then have to remember the amount of tickets and impound fees you will receive. My Silvia has been impounded over 20 times it gets really expensive. Buy a lhd car and dump a shit load of money into it and call it a day.

not to mention in japan they are taxed yearly on the weight of there car. true JDM spec cars way significantly less then usdm versions do for that reason. thus they dont meet the usdm safty spec. you have to have them stripped down, reinforced and rebuild. at least that what i read when i was looking to get me a rhd r32 w/ a s14 sr swap from japanmotorimports. i had the loan preapproved and every thing. i said fvck it and got what i have now... my touge whore that i beat the piss out of drifting and i love every little bit of my na ka!
plus you can find cars like that here in the states that have gone threw all the hoops all ready you just need to know where to look. also consider canada saves you 5g's on a shipping container and customs. originally all the rhd cars in canada come from japan any ways just they are across the boarder and no shipping fee. all other steps you take for making a jdm spec car usdm legal apply.
p.s. iknow this i did have a rhd ae86 a while back, check on club4ag.com they have some guys that are car whores and deal with jdm spec cars for sale as a source of income all the time. i almost picked up a typeX 180sx for 13,000$ legit CA smog and register with papers.

thats cool, 18 yrs old with rhd 14.... but seriously, WTF-impounded 20 + times:-/, did u have a lead foot? takes more than being rhd to get that much shit:duh:
hopefully thats all in past.
to the OP, how much do u honestly think u will get an s15 or skyline?, plan on spending 20k+, and that might get u a project car!:ddog:

its seriously not worth it.
"OH WOW I HAVE A JDM TYTE CAR!"
congratulations, you've spent 30 grand on a car that is outdated, hard to insure, and has the steering wheel on the wrong side of the car for American roads. With 30 grand you can buy an E46 M3 and still have money to supercharge it, upgrade the suspension, and throw some sticky tires on the stock rims... which, face it, look fantastic.
but how many 22 year olds do you know who can drop 30 grand on a car because they want to. Most of the people I know who are 22 are A: Military (broke) B: College (broke) or C: Working because they didn't go to college (broke and will be for a long long time)
