Hello fellow Zilvians have i got a story for you...

So i'm lookin on CL for a 240 and i happen to come by one for sale for 150 bucks (shell of course) so as i proceed to find out how to give the money to the owner, they tell me that the shell is in a autoshop place...fair enough i suppose, until they tell me that they cant sell THEIR car because the autoshop owner says that she owns the car. and I've been playing phone tag with the owner but he's never around...only his girlfriend and she knows squat about cars, literally(I asked her were the rims and tires stock and she didnt know wth i was talking about, then i asked her were the rims shiny or crappy looking and she said crappy lol). I've been jumping through hoops for the past 4 days...should i proceed with this damn shell or should i just find another one?

i contacted this person as well, and talked the the girlfriend, got the same asnwers as you, and i asked for the dude to call me back, but he never did, i assume they owe money to the shop and are trying to get some money for it, but who knows how much you would have to fork out to get the car out of there, ask for the number of the place if you really want it, but she did say that the tranny was rebuilt, gl man...but i would personally find one that the person actually has in possesion for you to pick up

Sounds like a lot of work if you haven't been in the 240 scene and have knowledge of it.

The problem with buying a shell is that your spending a lot of time trying to find parts for it and at times may end up just costing you more money or time trying to get the car to be whole again.

But if you have the knowledge then proceed with it.

Good luck.

Yeah, Why I say get the title in your name before even bother picking it up.

I have seen used prices go way polarized now. Used to be most cars were "blue book" with a couple way over and a couple suspiciously low priced. Now everything seems to be way over or way under priced. Nothing seems to be close to book value anymore. Makes it really hard to shop. The lows are hard to seperate the Lemons out. The highs you don't know if the person will go lower or someone just trying to make a score.

The deals are still out there. It's just A LOT more work. Hoofing around looking at cars in person and dealing rather than ad shopping.

yea...and for the record i checked out the car...nothing missing that i didnt know about. Just the motor but like everyone on here says, its just too much damn hassle...actually i finally got the skinny on it.

So the girlfriends' boyfriend dumped her for the owner so i guess its like a three way love triangle thing goin on
