What would be the cheapest way to swap an rb25 reliably?
i've searched some but havent found the answers im looking for.
are the top hat and zerolift mounts similiar?
the thing is i was looking for a way so i dont have to make a custom drive shaft when i can just buy a DSS shaft.
the best route at the moment looks like the top hat mounts and the DSS shaft for the top hats.
what whould you guys do for an rb swap?

Syko Performance Mount kit. sold by Drifting.com and the DSS driveshaft for that kit. thats the cleanest kit. I like it allot.

ruckus mounts are awesome too and only 275.
it allows u to use ur ka mounts BUT just go ahead and make some hockey puck mounts and u have some clean, affordable and great performing mounts

id have to go with this. if this was offered during the time i did my swap i would have gone with this. the selling point for me is the turbo dump/downpipe clearance from the LHD steering shaft.

I'm with ANVIL. SYKO makes a good kit. The tophat/core/rukus racing mounts suck balls. I actually had a new tranny mount fabricated that doesn't flex and allow the transmission to bounce all over the place while driving.

awesome thanks for the input guys. i am ka-t right now and wanted something with more pep.
with the syko kit i have to use the r33 x-member right? the mounts on phase 2 are about 550 bucks the drive shaft is about 375. thats seems like it might get pricey, but i guess its way cheaper than doing the mackinney kit.
bump. if anybody else has a better plan and approach please post up.

yeah im pretty sure you need the r33 xmember. rb swaps can be pretty spendy... the mounts and driveshaft are just the tip of the iceberg. rbs nickle and dime u to death. just something to think about if you are worried about costs.

I paid ~$70 for the R33 crossmember and ~$400 for the Syko mounts (didn't need the turbo elbow).

looks like the top hat mounts with the dss shaft is my best and cheapest route for now.
but im really leaning on the syko mount kit with dp and dss shaft bc i can get a cheap xmember from a friend. also its a quality kit.
does anybody here currently run the top hats or does anybody know where i can buy them?

FYI - My mounts are now powder coated Black at no extra charge.
And allow you to use an OE Type Mount, Nismo, Avid, or other
The mounts are now made from a thicker gauge metal than when they were "Ruckus"
And Break Bent Construction.

Painted Gold in the picture to stand out better.
Let me know if i can help you with a set.

with your mounts what will i have to do about the dp? will it allow it to clear?
and with your mounts is there an aftermarket shaft i can buy to use them with? or do i need to get a custom shaft made?

The zero-lift mounts appear to be thicker, which is critical especially for the transmission mount. Thicker front mount material is an added bonus, but the important item is the isolator.
Check out the top hat replacement transmission mount I had fabbed up.

If this ever bends, I have more serious problems.

i have tophat mounts, i bought them from jgy customs in 2006. back then it was either tophat or mckinney and the tophat were a lot cheaper for what seemed like the same thing to me. mine has held up great so far. i got my driveshaft made locally to save on shipping costs.
Buy a decent mig welder instead of forking over $500-600 for pieces of metal that probably cost $60 to make..
Trust me, it will work out A LOT cheaper in the long run.

haha I remember those days, McKinney, TopHat, or home-brewed. I still wish I knew how to weld and had the equipment.
Yah, eh?, tell that to the fab shop that made the "prototype" tranny mount for me. Jesus, it looks like a 10 year old did it with a stick welder. If I ever decide to order the mounts,

I am narrowing down the price for the drive shaft either today or tomorrow.
They will be offered in aluminum and eventually steel.
Trust me, these mounts cost more than you think to manufacture.
Our newest design is Tig Welded and Black Powder Coated.
They are 7 ga. or 3/16" depends what you are using to measure.
I have had numerous customers purchase the RB mount kit, and i have had no one tell me there is a problem with the exhaust clearance, So i cannot answer that question 100%

the driveshaft issue is a big deal breaker for me. the dp issue is not that bad. if you can lmk the progress of the steel shafts that would be awesome.

More than likely tomorrow afternoon.

Meh. Any decent local driveshaft shop can make you a good steel shaft for $215-250 and have it done in a day or two.
Zerolift-that is good that the revised mounts are now 3/16" plate. The flimsy 1/8" plate of the tophat mounts was a joke. I'd still prefer c-channel to 3/16" plate for better shear and moment resistence and fatigue prevention, but I'm sure 3/16" is plenty for most applications.

I do agree in extreme situations you may need thicker metal or even a box construction.
But with the break bent construction and the added thickness these puppies should withstand nearly anything you can throw at it..... besides the Half Ton Man :D
Tell you what makes the Rb driveshafts costly is the Slip Yoke.
Spicer recently discontinued the standard app for these.
Our shafts will be made with Serviceable and Greasable Joints.
Please stay tuned to my MOUNTS thread in advertiser section for updates.
Thanks,

give me some more info on the mounts... r33 cross member, or stock ka? does it position motor low enough for clearance with the stock IM? what about shifter placement?
