i just got a 93 fastback and the only issue with it is when i rev up to 3000 rpm it makes a squealing noise. but it drives fine. also the fan is really loud. the guy who sold it to me says it needs a new serpentine belt. not quite sure if thats true or not. but whats your take on this? is it safe to drive in the mean time? by the way its a ka24de.

does it get louder as you increase your throttle/speed?
could be either a belt or tensioner. i would change the belt and see what that does because it would just get louder and louder and eventually it will be almost embarassing to drive.

If anybody else suggests something other than what I've just said 15 times, you're wrong, and an idiot.
If you keep driving it this way, it puts extra wear on the water pump, so thats no good. Replace it asap.

I hope you're joking lol. But you sound serious, who knows on the internet.
There is a clutch fan. HA. It's connected to the water pump, so that's how it affects it. Nice.

Well, technically, it is the belt making that noise. BUT the reason the belt is begging for mercy after 3000 rpms is because the clutch fan is seized.
Wanna be thorough? Replace the fan and all the belts at once. Do it soon before you murder the bearing in your water pump.

Let me google that for you (http://lmgtfy.com/?q=240sx+fan+clutch+price)
any decent mechanic will charge you one hour of labor, max.
you should really do it yourself. all you need is like, a ratchet.

I second that mention ... been through this last summer, replaced it my self(quite easily done btw). Now it's all quiet ... bought the part second hand for around 30$ CAD.
