on the sr20det, its general specs are that its running 7psi (.5 bars) of boost.... but i want to know if that is 'high volume' or 'low volume' boost??
oh and my other question is.... are the north american 240sx (91-94) manual trany's the same as the japanese ones (the ones that you get with the sr20det when you import them for doind a conversion)???
thanks

I'm not sure I get the boost thing, boost is boost, as far as I know. But I read that the trannies are similar but the bell housings are different, so I don't think they would bolt up.

Im also not sure what your asking... ive never heard the terms high or low volume boost. But 7psi is stock so im guessing low volume boost. The tranny wont fit, most sr20det engines come with a tranny so it would be easier to get an sr that did than modifying your ka trans.

i was talking to this shop that deals just with turbo cars and rx7s specifcally. i have a few friends that go there to get work done on their cars, so can trust their info to true.
but dealing with the low and high volume boost, they were telling me that all turbo mtors are set up for either type of boost
(ie: turbo deseil trucks; ford cummins, are set up to run the low volume boost and can run upwards of 30+ on stock internals. a car like an rx7 are designed to run the high volume boost and only handle 12-14psi).... i guess thats why not all turbos are not interchangable, at least thats what i got from it. ive also noticed this 'high' and 'low' volume boost thing on a few web pages but never really thought about it. im going to be talking to them in the next week so i'll post what ever they have to say.
oh, and i was asking about the trany's bcz i didnt know if there was a difference in them. im still going to use the one i get with the sr.

I think your shop is nuts.
Boost and volume shouldn't be in the same sentence used to contrast eachother. Pressure x Volume = nRT.
Turbos are interchangeable.. you just need a flange that it can bolt to. We have people running Diesel truck turbos, Mitsubishi turbos, Volvo turbos, a Toyota turbo, ect.
And finally, and engine can hold as much boost as you can build it to.
So... I don't quite know what to think of the shop.. but I'd go elsewhere.

Something has me thinking low and high volume is low and high compression...30 psi boost on a low compression engine, 12 on a high compression make sense.

im thinking that Kookaburraz is right on this one. i must have got somthing mixed up. My bad.

As a rule, don't desiel engines have crazy high compression??

AHHHH! PV=nRT!!! *turns into quivering ball of jello*
Maybe this guy means CFM pushed by the turbo?

Yes. Upwards of 19:1. They need the compression to ignite the fuel. In a diesel motor, there are no spark plugs (just glow plugs for starting). The air and fuel just get compressed so much, they blow up on their own. Cool, eh? So yeah, dieses are different.
And they *can* run fairly high boost because they naturally run cooler and their are built VERY stout.

yeah I was gonna say, of course diesel's have high compression, they don't use spark plugs. completely different beast than a gasoline engine. Still able to make hella power, shame that it comes with such black exhaust.
My roommate had a 75 shot backing up his 92 Integra and he lost a street race to some guy with a diesel truck with an upgraded turbo kit.
