Before i begin, here's the set up on my car and yes, i've searched
S13 redtop SR
480cc, stock fpr
S15 T28 spec R
Enthalpy Tuned
Walbro Fuel pump
Z32 MAFS
Boosting 1 bar
Vacuum is reading 20psi at idle
The Symtons:
Car would break up under boost, the sound is very similar to spark blowing out or boostleak. This happenned out of no where 2 weeks ago
and the car was driving perfectly fine prior to this. The car still drives ok, as long as i'm not WOT or building boost
What i have done:
I've pretty much done replaced all the cheap stuffs
-new Plugs (NGK BKR7E gapped at .28)
-new couplings
-new t clamps
-new Fuel filter (the old one were like 6yrs old)
-new Fuel Sock (strainer)
-new BOV (HKS SSQV) since the old one was broken and leaky
-swapped a spare Z32 MAFS, still fail
-swapped a spare ignitor, still fail
so it is pretty much verified that there isn't boost leak or unlikely fuel issue (maybe fpr)
so wtf is it???? Timing??? is it possible for the motor to mechanically go retarded on its own???
help bros

Nothing can really make the timing mechenicially retard itself, but it can electronicially retard itslef if one of your sensors are acting screwy. I always recommend getting a consult cable and nissan datascan. Sure thats not really cheap but you could have bought that now instead of throwing parts at your car. I dont understand how people get by without it honestly! You can datalog with it and monitor it while driving and see readouts of all of your sensors and then you can easially tell whats going on (usually).
Also, I like having dash mounted fuel pressure gauges as well as widebands. That could have helped you rule out the fuel problems by seeing that the pressure was not dropping and that it wasnt going rich or lean. If you had a boost leak it would have gone rich and pulled some timing. I have heard of people having a boost leak between their intake manifold and head though.
And for future referance, if your not dead on any of the cylenders, your igintor chip is fine.
Do yourself a favor and get you Nissan Datascan!!!!!

had the same problem with my sr. it took me about a month of swapping parts until i fixed it. Check your coils. I bought myself the splitfire coil pack kit and badabing bada boom problem solved. Never sputtered again.

I had a bad knock sensor that was causeing the same shit to happen, replaced it and no more issue

Both the coils and the knock sensor can create similar issues as mentioned. The only thing is (even though the splitfire coils kick ass!) you can replace the coils and the knock sensor and be out all that money and again still have the same problem!
Really, look into datascan so you can make more educated purchases. It already would have paid for 3x once for you, and it would pay for itself 5x over if you replace the coils and knock sensor and still have the problem.
