Yeah!!1! Try to get Toyota to cease production on their best selling vehicles to start remaking a car that is absolute garbage in every way by today's standards (86), and overpriced dyno queens (Poopra). YAY!!!!

Automakers should start listening to internet drifters who likely won't be buying new cars either way.
That way we get an S16 Silvia, a retooled RWD Carolla (hell, maybe they'll call it the AE87), Make the Celica RWD again and maybe a new Supra.

... or not...

Phlip, you of all people know there's more then just "internet drifters" on this site.

The wife and I have discussed and as soon as I land a job I'm buying a new car. I'm just bummed out for Nissan that it's probably gonna be a Hyundai.

Ditto. Toyota hasn't impressed me with a vehicle in a long long time. The last decade of cars from them has been coma inducing if you are an enthusiast.

Too bad they found out they are not immune to the slow cars sales and the bad economy.

Which is why the cars that we have come to love of them -- MR2, RWD Carolla/Celicas and Supras -- will NOT be coming back anytime soon.

Those cars never won "Car of the Year" (referring to the Gen Sedan), nor did they win in comparos against the some of the best cars (Gen coupe was picked over the G37 by InsideLine) on the market. Those cars where waaaay from Hyundai's past. It's a totally different company now then it was then.

This isn't a Genesis thread though. Just sayin.

*Yawn

Nobody makes good cars anymore. We just keep getting taunted. However, it's not like a business is going to cater to a group who is A) Minor in the market, B) Doesn't statistically consist of people who can afford a brand new car, and finally C) Are operating in the same economic atmosphere that their company is. A shitty one.

03-19-2009, 01:11 PM
true that. we can all sit here and bitch, but the fact of the matter is that very few of us will be purchasing NEW cars in the next year or two. i bet im in my 30's before i buy a new car off a dealers lot. until then, im just gonna roll my old, cheap cars. [my old, NON-fwd, NON-4cyl, NON-auto/paddle shift shit, non-bland, non-green cars. ]

True, those were all laughable, but then again stuff like the Corolla, LS, IS, XB, etc aren't exactly interesting either. Not say they're necessary garbage, but they're probably marketed more towards senior citizens & soccer moms.

At least Hyundai is making an effort to appeal to the driving enthusiast, and the results have been well received (as per recent auto reviews). Not bad for a first effort at building a production rwd performance car. It's certainly more attractive than anything toyota has to offer right now in North America imo.

I'd say Hyundai is starting to redeem themselves, while Toyota continues their reputation of building boring cars.

Depends how picky you are when you say A) Minor in the market.

Actually I'd say we have some pretty good choices right now when it comes to new cars.
I love the 370, evo, wrx, and 135.
The Genesis looks to be a pretty solid buy too, although I'm awaiting revies on the 2.0T R trim.

For certain enthusiasts, apparently what we have is still "not good enough".
Too heavy, expensive, too soft, not bare-bones enough, etc.

If you don't get the perfect car, you just settle for the best compromise.
I'm pretty happy with my existing evo, and wouldn't hesistate at all to spend $ on some of the other options out there (if I were to get something else).
There certainly is a market for fun cars, but as I said, it depends on how picky you are.
Bar halo cars, I doubt manufacturers would be building them if there wasn't any anticipated profitability.

there are alot of fun cars out right now. not too many rwd ones but you still have 370Z, 135, G8, Solstice/Sky, Mustang, Camaro(23k for the 300hp V6), Challenger. for AWD you have Evo/Ralliart, WRX/STi. fwd you have Caliber SRT4, Cobalt SS, MS3, Altima V6, Mini, Civic Si. they are all fun cars. what more do you want?

to be honest most of the people that talk all the crap about new cars can't or won't be buying new cars soon.

my roommate had that same lip in high school. what a stupid car that was

his wasn't a gt-four, though, of course. i'd swerve a converted 6g, or an alltrac 5g if i could find one for a decent price.

just give it some time im sure they will make something to compete with the market of the genesis if that thing becomes popular.
Long as they dont sell it as a scion.. gahh i think scion owners are dorks who like to "accessorize their cute lil cars" lol

Yeah, because auto manufacturers who's cars I can afford really haven't offered anything I've wanted to drive since 2002..

Cars just keep getting bigger, heavier and more luxurious. Shit I'm not interested in.
