I have recently been informed that MSC is coming to our local track on July 19th. After having gone to their website we realized that they have certain criteria that you have to comply with before you are allowed to enter the event.
The rules on this page: MSCƒ`ƒƒƒŒƒ“ƒW ::: MSCiƒ‚[ƒ^[ƒXƒ|[ƒcƒRƒ€j (http://www.motorsportscom.info/drift/about/)
Translate into this:
- Car needs a current JCI policy
- Need a 4 point harness properly installed
- Need to have a sound reducible muffler or a properly installed catalyst
- Both the front and back of the car must have operational tow hooks
- No oil leaks, or leaks in general
- Must have a properly installed fire extinguisher
- A full face helmet
- Long sleeves, long pants, and shoes suitable for driving
I can deal with most of the requirements but apparently i need to get a rear tow hook. I am looking for one specifically made for the S13 chassis that way i only have to cut a small slot in the rear bumper for access. I am trying to avoid generic "universal" hooks that may require me to hack the fuck out of my bumper.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks

what about the stock ones on the bumper support?
no good?
cant you just buy a universal one and weld it to the bumper support if anything?
shit, if you dont weld, bolt it on?

nothing is wrong with stock one in the rear except for the fact that if i have to use it, it will crush my bumper. i am thinking of trying to make a plate similar to an aftermarket tow hook that i can bolt to the stock position that will kinda angle below the bumper. only problem with that is if the plate bends it will still end up crushing my bumper. that's why im searching for an after market solution that i can just permanently leave on there. i do go to the track frequently whether or not MSC is there so it may serve a purpose in the future.
also, as far as color goes, i am looking for something subtle like black since my car is black.
last time i glanced at the stock tow hook i noticed that it is coming off of the frame at an angle and most of the aftermarket tow hooks are machined flat...i forgot to check but can i just unbolt the stock tow hook and throw another in its place, or is the stock one welded to the frame?

the rear one?
welded to the bumper support.
i suppose any old L shaped tow hook of sufficient length could be welded (or bolted) to the bumper support and would be just as functional as the stock one, and would only require a small slit in your bumper.

i just want to be sure that it is going to be something that will meet their requirements so i can enter the event. im not sure how stringent their rules are, but i just watched that MSC @ Honjo video made by SpeedHunters again yesterday and damn near every car in that video had some sort of aftermarket tow hook poking out the back of their bumper. i wish there was some way to tell exactly what they consider good and not good.

maybe u dont need one visible, they jsut want to make sure each car can be pulled if something happens, if you get stuck pop ur rear off?

don't crash and they won't have to tow you

that is the obvious answer, but whether you crash or not the tow hook is still required. im gonna get my car back up on the lift and see if i can unbolt the stock hook. if so ill just put another one in its place.
