whats up fellas, well heres the situation, been having some problems with my clutch, so i decide i would drop the tranny and see whats going on. I didnt want to make a mess so i figure might as well change my tranny fluid. (i track my car so i change oil in a timely manner) and as i pulled the plug i heard a thump! and heres what i found
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v680/MRchuchu/101_0063.jpg
YES A PENNY and two metal pieces.. jk just the metal. i digress
WTF!!!
last time i changed fluids was a few months ago. since then the tranny has shifted like butter. ive been using royal purple 75/90. i heard theres better oils but whatever.
i know metal coming out of your tranny while draining isnt good but will this affect the tranny when i get it back on the engine?
it was running fine before i found it but i just want to make sure.
and wtf is it any way.
thanx in advance

That looks like one of those bendable pieces of metal that are used to hold a line or wire in place.
But that's just a guess and I don't know why it'd be inside your tranny.

I cant see the pic (at work)
But I gotta say RP sucks.
Made my Synco's grind in 2nd (really Bad) and 4th and I take care of my tranny
Drained that crap out and put in some Mobile 1. No more Grind in 2nd, 4th will kinda for a split sec but no where near as bad.

that's what I think it is too. Carlo, does your transmission have the bleeder hose attached? If not, look for a bendable rubber coated metal piece. Can't remember if you're suppose to have two or one on your trans.
Might have been broken off when someone did a clutch job or something and accidentally fell into the shifter hole.

RP killed my 3rd gear, and another guy i know spun bearing 2 days after switching to RP motor oil. Shits terrible for FI engines and trannys.

Use GL4 oils
GL5's contain phosphates and shit which corrode brass
240sx synchros are made of brass
by the transitive property of equality...

I know what it is!!
It's the 2 brackets that hold the shaft down... which can easily fall into the tranny when installing a short shifter, etc

^^ if it is, would it affect the tranny at all?
but anyway, i got the tranny off but havent really had the chance to check if all the components are still attached, it was getting late, dark and by my self. if i had an extra set of hands it would of been a sinch. to be continued.

Like said above someone probably dropped it in when they changed fluid. When you see gold in your fluid is when you start to worry.

is there a dealer that supplies AMSoil or is it an only online distributer?

The piece that broke off inside the trans isnt a vital part. You are lucky that it didnt fall in between the gear teeth or you would of felt that. The piece that broke off is a guide to direct fluid from the bellhousing side of the trans to the other side.

yeah, stay away from gl5 based gear oil in our trans.. it eats the syncros. i have ran redline mt90 for 3 years now and have not had a problem with my sr.
gl4 in tranny
gl5 in diff is ok

yuh i think royal purple is the only motor oil that has gl4 and gl5 approval. Never again.

Amsoil MTG
Redline MT90
Royal Purple Max-Gear
Are all GL-4 rated. Many like Mobil-1 are only GL-5.
