*Problem found. Split in the EGR pipe on the bottom section.

Recently, my KA got a sudden massive leak where the EGR pipe connects to the manifold.
(I was driving on the freeway, then suddenly started leaking).

It's leaking under the section that threads in(not through the threads themselves).

Here's a picture explaining what I'm talking about.

Most people know what a leak sounds like(ghetto helicopter status).

I've tried to loosen/tighten it back on, seal it with this ghetto autozone special leak sealer, and push it in further to see if that was the problem...nothing. Same leak.

I've checked for cracks on the pipe, nothing.

Any clue what it might be?

Tired of driving around with such a massive/annoying leak.

Yea man.. I had the same thing happen to me with S13 EGR Pipe.. I started looking around and found a split in the pipe.

The lip-ring that seats the thread bolt & seats the piping from movement once seated, may be cracked. Giving off that funny sounding leak, you stated that all has been threaded properly, so check. From the looks of the metal quality, you've had some work & time w/ this particular item on the engine, i would recommend replacement of the complete section, to ease heart/head ache, simply to this, you will be reinstating a new section, if it gives off the same leakage sounds, then you know it is not that section & at least you'll have a new piping/tread section. Pretty! It seems to me that you treads may be the culprit here, there is one clearly flattened as though it was bitten by the teeth of pliers, or tread wrong. If you do not have the time/ budget, try pluming tape; push the thread bolt back & wrap that questioned section. Just a diy solution, its usually laying around in some drawer or box in the home.

Best regards.

You got it right on the money.

Whenever I loosened it, I couldn't tell the crack in the pipe because it was covered by the threaded section.

Tightened it up and found a good sized split in the pipe.

Fuck.

Thanks dude.

Now, Gotta replace the entire pipe....ugh.

jbweld bro!!!

You have a point.

Hah.

Gonna go pick up some JB Weld now and stack it on there.

Temp fix anyway.

Motor will be pulled out by next month.

Hey since we're on the topic of EGR leaks and such...

Does anyone know what the little bung on the downpipe of stock KA is for?

I already welded up the stock header (Going from KA-T back to KA, with no EGR stuff)

KA24DE or KA24E? On my SOHC I had 2 bungs on the exhaust. One was for the EGR pipe that goes back to the intake manifold and I just purchased a Nissan part that plugs that up

and then the other one was for the other emissions box that reroutes the exhaust back into the intake. I removed all my emissions.... no leaks, car runs smooth as hell no issues. I also took out the butterfly valves aka secondary whatchmacallems

AIV/air injection valve.
Useless little piece of emissions equipment.
