View Full Version : So I'm finally taking the dive (SR20DET)

So believe it or not NiteKids is going through the motor swap. (Probely realisticly in about 3 months.)

In about two weeks or so I'm going to first pick up a motor. (S13 Black Top SR20DET) from Phase2 Motortrend. In the time being I want this install done right and be reliable. So basicly I want to know what everyone thinks about all the products I plan to put in and what you guys think.

1. Ditch the stock Radiater and go with the:
Koyo Radiater (http://www.phase2motortrend.com/s13sr20detko.html)
http://store6.yimg.com/I/phase2motorsports_1730_680724

Since SR's are known to overheat.

2.
Power Enterprise Upper & Lower Radiator Hose SR20DET (http://www.phase2motortrend.com/powenuplowra.html) http://store6.yimg.com/I/phase2motorsports_1730_839089

3.Blitz 3" Stainless Downpipe S13/S14/S15 SR20DET (http://www.phase2motortrend.com/blit3staindo.html)
http://store6.yimg.com/I/phase2motorsports_1730_147159

4.Z32 or Supra Fuel Pump or something to that extent

5. ACT Street Clutch

6. Some type of Air Filter. Apexi or HKS.

7.Blitz LM Intercooler Kit S13 SR20DET (http://www.phase2motortrend.com/blitlminkits1.html) http://store6.yimg.com/I/phase2motorsports_1730_79551

8. Various Guages bla bla bla Blitz
http://store6.yimg.com/I/phase2motorsports_1712_786102

9.HKS Full Hotpipe SSQV BOV Kit - S13 SR20DET (http://www.phase2motortrend.com/hksalpipssbo.html) http://store6.yimg.com/I/phase2motorsports_1731_787868
----------------
Welp that my long list of stuff that I plan to do and that I ACUALLY am gonna do believe it or not. Of course getting the motor out of the way is the first part. Then after that I'll be picking up a few new things every two weeks.

If time, money and patience persists I may have phase2 throw in a metal Tomei head gasket and rocker arm stopers in before that install.

Tell me what you think of my choices and what I should change. I still have a bit of time on the parts. but I'll be getting the motor real soon.

Get a walbro fuel pump: it's cheaper and it does the job!

And what is this about the SRs overheating? Is it my area that's too cold or what? No one around here has an upgraded radiaotor on their SRs....

The Radiater Upgrade I feel the need to do it because:

1. it's hot as hell in cali

2. Crazy NiteKids Driver probely pushing the motor really hard and running high boost

3. Peace of mind. Better safe then sorry for such a large investment.

4. Well ****....it looks good but I could careless. I might just get the mat black one.

I might just lay off on the radiator upgrade though. But everything else would happen though. But we will see as a bit more time passes and see how impatient I get.

Please no need for congrats untill you see it in the car! I feel about like I already have it cause everyone keeps saying that! :D

Also like I asked before does anyone have any other suggesions or thing they think I should change? I still have kinda awhile to decide durring the parts pick up process.

But yeah WOW after putting everything I want/need alltogether adds up to a hell of alot more then I thought. But it should all be worth it in the end. :)

Driving in VA last couple of summers it has been unbearably hot and I was using the stock KA radiator w/ a single puller fan w/ no problems. She has never overheated because of the setup. I have since gotten a stock SR radiator but still use the single puller.

Been working since Jan 2001

Nitekids.. what kind of exhaust are you using? will that down pipe remove the cat? What kind of intake are you planning on running?

you may need a catch can for the valve cover breather if you don't have anyplace in the IC piping to tap it in..

hmm... the metal Head gasket, and RAS are both good ideas.

are you gonna replace all the gaskets on the engine before installation?

for cheaper radiator's I believe fluidyne makes one for the SR now.. (I saw one in a 240 this weekend)

I also agree you need a Boost controller, and a turbo timer will help your car be more reliable.

Blitz and other "JDM" gauges are pretty but expensive... go Autometer. But, hey, if the look of the gauges matters, by all means spend more on Blitz/Apexi/etc.

I'm using Trust DD exhaust. It's already on my car. 3inch piping all the way back and it splits off into two two and a half inch tips...not mufflers. Yes it's VERY loud right now.

I think the Koyo is around $375 and the Fluidyne is over 500, I could be wrong, but its close to the Greddy price.

I bought the Koyo ($340 Enjuku) and it is really sweet! Definitly worth it. You can get a 14" electric fan with a temp. switch for like ~$90 from summit racing and use the KA fan shroud (maybe, I'm gonna try it at least but it seems feasable).

I do tech support for Gigafast Ethernet. I make a crappy amount. It's not much more then min wage. But I work about full time and pull a crappy amount. But over time it adds up. I'm not in HS anymore. Maybe 3 years ago.

Pics of what? I have yet to even buy the motor yet. I was just posting about it wondering about opinions on parts etc. I'll have a motor soon but it won't go in right away.
