Fuck that cert stuff... no one cares and waste of money.... period....
Get more experience and more projects and do some consulting and market your skills better.... That is whats going to get you ahead in the world...
Trust me IT for 8 years.... Certs is what hiring people laugh at....

That depends where he wants to work. For new contractor hires in my shop, they are trying to make the CISSP cert a requirement.
Not sure where they came up with this requirement though, maybe things are different in the real (non-government contract) world :p.
I hear good things about testking, known a couple people who used it to get their CCNAs.

i read that alot of places will instantly throw the resume away if there is lil experience and no background certs or training on the resume..
You gotta start somewhere, the thing is whos gonna let someone with no experience/certs work? Thats why it would be hard during this time with hiring because they will only hire with experience.
Somewhat related, i went to ITT to look into classes, and the degree i wanted to pursue tuition would be 45k.. sadly with no job right now and bills, i dont wanna take that kind of financial responsibility right now.
I been building and messin with computer hardware for over 10 years as a hobby of mine, I wouldnt mind trying to get somewhere with it.. I have had a friend tell me before that if you know your stuff you can apply for a test for a certificate somewhere...

Japan is probably the only place certs will count...
I mean experience on top of certs, yah maybe makes that little difference.... But experience counts 90% certs maybe 10% tops.... If your company pays for the cert o its free, by all means go for it.... Otherwise waste of time....
I worked for HP, MIPS Technologies (Sony Playstation Processors), Actuate (Enterprise Reporting Software), Publishing company......
Pffft certs....

I don't have one cert under my name and I have been doing information technology support for the last 9 years. My roommate has a BACHELORS in technology science (same shit computers) and wouldn't be able to do one job I've ever had. Much less his experience is so far fetched from what he even has a degree in that it would take me 3-5 months for him to be on my level of experience.
Give or take with what he already knows.
certs aren't going to keep you from getting laid off, and neither is experience, or seniority.
lol but in other news im getting back in shape with all of my free time! =)

If you are looking to get certified, consider learning the stuff yourself and just paying to take the test.
From personal experience:
MySQL Developer Certification courses: ~$12,000
MySQL Developer Certification study guide: $60 (plus two $200 exam fees)
I bought the study guide, read the hell out of it, and passed my two cert tests the same as anyone who took a $12,000 class. NEXT.
