280sx.. thing?

All right, me and DMC were walking around a junkyard today and I showed him the nissan section before we went to merk's.. well I had seen this before and asked him about it but he has no idea.. on 2 of the 280's they had, both were "turbo" they have the exhuast housing on the exhuast, with a blockoff plate and no compressor side... on the other side of the engine... it has what looks to be a compressor housing.. made of plastic and has wires and a small hose running to the intake... WTF is this? a electric turbo??? or does it some how still use the exhuast housing to spin it??? or some type of emissions crap?

Sounds like you're looking at a smog pump or some other early emissions control device, yes.

By the way did you mean 280ZX or 200SX?

pretty sure it was a 280... it has round headlights and a LONG engine bay, straight 6... both intake and exhuast on the drivers side of the head.. the hood opened from the windshield.. the drivers side had a scoop followed by louvers.. while the passanger side only had louvers.. and it was a rounded body to the back...
