so i'm in training today. super early. learning some new systems at work. i'm a supervisor and i'm in with all these entry level dudes. our instructor walks out and takes most of the class with her to check passwords or some shit, i dunno.
i'm sitting there with five other guys for half an hour, and, fuck, it's so early. so i rest my eyes for a minute.
guess it was more than a minute, because when i open them it's because somebody's tapping my shoulder. it's my ops manager, and he is PISSED. tells me i should go home for the rest of the day and call my head supervisor.
so yeah, maybe i just got fired for the dumbest thing ever. been there for two years, promoted twice. was just about to use a week of vacation. awesome. i'm such a retard. :dead:

it feels like the situation where they'll feed me the "lead by example" line. i mean, dude embarrassed me in front of a group of entry level guys. i dunno, we'll see. i called a couple guys and they seem to think i'll be alright, but i can't reach my supe, which is concerning me.
either way i'm updating the resume and applying to some places today. if i get a job at Charter, that's free cable! WOOOO

the thing that REALLY fucking burns me is that it's mandatory training for something i already know how to do. i could have slept through the whole fucker and it wouldn't even have mattered. and before i dozed off, we were all talking about how we'd rather be doing actual work.

a friend has it and before he got the mask so he would sleep better he would fall asleep anywhere. to my knowledge when you have it you never go into a deep sleep because you are constantly straining to breathe. so your constantly tired.

Seriously, I don't know what the big deal is.
Even requesting you take the day off is over-reacting imo,
but then again I don't know how rigid your company operates.
It's not like you were the one giving the training.
If anything, I think the trainer should be written up doing the training un-prepared & walking out for 30 mins.

no thanks to the entry level guys for not helping out.
how difficult is it to wake you up out of common courtesy?
hope you find some way to repay their good-will.

Good luck in any case.

I work for the state, and falling asleep on the job is suprisingly enough a rather BIG offense. Of course it depends on your management and how FAR they want to talk the penalties, but it can go as far as being terminated...its happened before..

I would come up with a reasonable excuse for having lack of sleep the night prior, (like family issues or personal issues if you dont want to elaborate or in this case LIE lol). Then just explain that this was a one time thing and can gaurantee that it will NEVER happen again...

thats really the only thing you can do to help the situation....but dont stress about it...no point now....

Found this site, not sure if it's helpful.
Might want to look at the company's termination policies, if there are any.

Wrongful Termination - Guidelines for Making a Case (http://www.wrongfultermination.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=21&Itemid=75)

can't hurt to consult a lawyer and check if you have a case.
dozing off is NOT reasonable grounds for termination.

Best of luck with the unemployment, but of course you'd rather have a job - when interviewing, let them know all the great things you did for your company, and how puzzled you are that they were so inconsiderate to your medical issue (no sleep/nyquil/etc), and that you don't have any hard feelings, must be the economy ~ telling them you're pissed about gettin canned will not bode well with getting a new job.

Make sure you get a "pink slip." I have seen a lot of people get screwed on unemployment cause the company doesn't want to look bad or they think they are going to raise their unemployment insurance rates.

Make sure you have a reason for termination and a event description. I swear some places rubber stamp the unemployment form with insubordination or the likes even if the reason is radically different. If you have one reason on your form and they stamp some generic reason that is different it can help your case.

No, that's usually how HR does it - they don't want "confrontation", and in CA they get up to two weeks I think to mail it.

... but make sure they mail it lol.

Actually by California labor law your supposed to be paid in full the minute your officially let go. If they don't you can take them to the labor commission.

I used to work for a Auto Parts wholesaler in Redwood City. The boss was a real son of bitch who would talk all kinds of smack about the employee's. One day he talked smack to me and I told him how it was. He fired me, did not pay me.
A week went by and he was all like you will get paid when the paychecks are issued. Took it to the labor commission. LOL They made him pay me for the 2 weeks it took for them to issue the check. LOL It was at 1.5 times the my normal hourly wage as well because he failed. LOL Fired with 2 weeks severance pay.

Busted we may have our differences but losing a job at this time just sucks. Good luck man on getting something else happening.

wow. that just sucks ass. That's a horrible thing about the current economy. If you fuck up you could be replaced in a SPLIT second. Look for a job where upon hiring they invest in you. Something where they have to spend money training you. Only recently I've been fucking up A LOT at my job because I have a ton of personal issues. It's multiple things, mostly stupid things though, and haven't even been written up. I've been doing the same thing for 8 years though so a certain amount of training over that time gets pretty expensive.

He can't see me, and he's committing crime.

I come along and say "I can see you. He says
"You can't." I say "Yes, I can with my..."

"You can't get me. You can't get me."
"Yes, I can. Yes, I can."

The bananas.

I know a banana who applied for a job
as a telephone repairman.

Guy came and said "You want a job... here?"
And he said "Yeah, I wanna get a job as a telephone repairman"

He said "You got the job! You got the job, buddy!!"

if this is your first time, i really don't think it is a good reason to fire you. you could be ill at that morning and the company should have tried to help you (i.e provide coffee) or give you warning first. it was a training in the early morning and it did not cause any harm or lost. i think maybe you can go seek some help to fight for this unfair HR management?
