is it ok to just primer the car and spray clear coats over it?
or would the clearcoat not adhere to the primer correctly?
probably stupid questions but i'm just curious cuz i like the color of just white primer. just add a little clear coat to it would be nice to me.

thanks!

I would wetsand it with a flexible light sanding pad and 500-600 grit to get it nice and smooth first.

Im sure you could paint it after cleaning with with a fine scotch brite pad and some warm soapy water but the surface might not be smooth in some places

Why not just get some off white paint? Probably last longer and look better

why spray clear over primer??? thats nuts.

you spray primer. then wetsand. wetsand till its smooth.

now spray the paint.

when dry, spray clear. 2-3 coats, give time in between. now sand it down smooth with 800-1000, then westand with 1500 grit. buff, polish/cut. done

yeah you can primer the car and spray clear coat over it. It has to be a sealer and you have to spray the clear after the primer flashes off. If you let it dry then your gonna have to wet sand it first. Your gonna need to wet sand the car anyways to primer the car. Rule of thumb for wetsanding a car for primer/paint. Put it out in the sun and let it dry. If you can see any shine or shiny areas then you missed a spot. It wont stick like that.

If you want some white but nothing too shiny then go for a single stage or even more dull go for a 2 stage paint system and flattening agent for the clear.

Skip the primer if your gonna do any repairs. theres no need to ruin the perfect factory corrosion protection.

want to save even more money and just want to paint it white? dont buy any sanding paper. Just wash the car with soap first, wipe it down with wax&greese remover. Buy a 600 grit rate scotch brite and scuff the car real quick. It'll last u at least 2 years before it starts flaking off or more if you scuff it down perfect then expect 5 years.

my friend did that with his mustang and it turned out legit.
