This idea just hasnt occured to me over night, but since the economic turndown iv thought a lil more about it. Society caters soo much to these rich and famous. All they do is entertain us. It really pissed me off the other ay to learn that Manny Ramirez some baseball player to get $45Million for a 2 yr contract, and he Turned it DOWN!! WTF!!!! I know people right now that would beg for $4.50 an hr!!!! Heres someone doing a job they Love to do. You know how many stoopid finger things they have to sell to pay his salary!! when will it ever end!!!

With this whole Chris Brown and Rihanna thing, it seems we as the public know more about there situation than about anything else going on say overseas with the war, How the hell AIG is getting another check when they just got one and spent it on a wknd getaway!

I cant stand our media! Putting so much emphasism on shit that doesnt matter!!! I wish i had my own radio talk show or TV so i could blast these ppl and maybe talk about things that really matter in our country other than what paris hilton was doing with her dog at Starbucks!

I wish ppl would start boycotting things!!

1) entertainment eases the mind

2) your post is more stupid than the things you're complaining about

3) dipshit

We? Speak for yourself. I don't care about them. I'll follow sports and watch movies, but I don't idolize these people.

I'm happy as I don't have the media telling me what I should watch or listen to. I downgraded my cable to basic (the real one with like 20 channels) since there was only reality TV crap, and the shows I like are on locally or on the internet. My headunit stopped picking up FM so I don't listen to any Clear Channel garbage. I burn my own CD mixes for the car, download what I want for my MP3, and stream or torrent the shows that matter.

There is no amount of "player skill" that is worth $45M to play a kids game.

I don't care about sports figures. Whiny, steroid using, overpaid, primadonnas. Fuck 'em

i meant that people, in general, lead very mediocre uneventful lives. Keep tabs on someone everyone knows, who has an extraordinary, eventful life.

On the other hand, I would not mind being a celebrity.

When I think about how we only live once, and some people no matter how intelligent struggle their entire life, while others get to travel the world and live out their dreams, I admit I would rather be one of the latter.

what would happen if all the sport players, and movie star, etc. got paid, like comfortably not like more than needed ever?

i think the games and movies would be alot more interesting and exciting to watch, since it would be more about personal love and the want to do it, not because they are making a stupid amount of money.

the rest of the billions spent on entertainment would go towards the country.

don't blame the media. the media just gives ppl what they want.
even then, its not like there's any force-feeding involved.
if you decide to watch bad tv, that's your choice.

also, nobody is actually forcing anyone to know about Whatever his name is Brown, or celebrities.
personally I just use the internet (set homepage to google), steal my brother's 'Economist'/'Wall Street Journal' publications & listen to public radio.
I decide precisely what I want to know.
I decide what I want to enjoy (music, literature, movies, places to eat, stuff to do).
I choose not to watch TV at all, and haven't done so for 15-20 yrs.
With the convenience (& freebies) of the internet in this day & age,
there's no reason at all to watch tv or deal with garbage media.

That does come at a price though.
You will have absolutely nothing in common w/ random skanks (and most ppl in general).
I had no idea who this Rihanna person was until that sorry thread was posted here on zilvia.

Only annoying crap I have to deal with are the stuff posted on billboards,
and the tasteless ads/articles posted on my hotmail email account.

Likewise, and as for celebrities I don't give a crap which performance monkey is performing, as long as it keeps me entertained. I have never been to a concert, why? Because I am not going to pay to hear the same music that I already have

music is another story. depending on the artist & venue, a live performance in a concert is a totally different experience. it might be a lot better, or it could be worse. seldom have I been to a concert where the artist sounds exactly like they would in their album.

same deal here. I see celebrities like al pacino, warren batey, & some miscellanous others etc around the starbucks close to my house all the time. the only time I was semi-impressed was when I saw Ron Jeremy in cafe in Van Nuys (go figure). Even the porno actresses are regular looking chicks in real life.

The 'celebrities' just seem like nice regular ppl. I don't know why ppl make such a big fuss about it. Kinda sucks to be them to be getting such corny attention all the time.

Because its entertainment.

It helps people take their minds off thier problems. I know I hate to be reminded of my current situation, so i dont mind listening to checking out the latest gossip.

It also gives people hopes and dreams, that one day they too can be a star up there with them, fat crib, cool cars etc. Only the people that work hard and remain a positive image can get that.

But I agree about the amounts people get paid, would be nice to see some of them actually consider pay cuts to help out.. instead, they usually bitch and complain when they arent getting paid enough.

I want to make an innuendo joke but I'm so distracted by the fact that anyone likes Ron Jeremy.

It's a cycle I have much observed in my life. It's extremely vicious and self-deserving.

These figures tell us how to live our lives and be who we should. Thus, we keep them sitting on fat wads of cash to keep them satisfied and their lives full of pointless drama that we constantly indulge in.

Who knows who is behind it. Gov't, Society, Culture, God...

It's just a pyramid.

the only scene i see that people are trying to live like, is music.. its the most influential. You got dudes wearing tight pants cuz they see it in music vids etc lol.. you got dudes with broken slang/cant talk proper because its in current rap artists vocabulary... u got dudes who cheat and have baby mommas and cuz the songs suggest it.. lol

jk.. but yeah, music does reflect the times
