View Full Version : High quality Halogen vs HID's on Zenki?

I am looking to get the great performing lighting as my stock zenki lights are yellowed and need replacing. I was considering German glass lights with some good halogen bulbs, or possibly trying to source Final Konnexion lenses and retro some TSX Hid's.

Obviously the German Lights and Bulbs would be the easiest and possibley cheaper solution. but how difference would the performance be versus HID's and clear lenses?

I put plug-in HIDs into my USA spec 1995 headlights. It was cool. Everything lit up.

Have you driven a car at night with HIDs?

HID > Halogen

However I like the looks of the glass headlights vs FK lenses.

what was the cut off like?

Brian
03-04-2009, 08:47 PM
I don't know.

Cut off is for guys who like to park in front of walls and then take photos to post on their favoursite internet forum.

I drive my car in the real world. if they light goes in front of me and lights up the road, GREAT.

Brian not true, My current oem s14 lights light up the road in front but its quite a bit dull. and I cant say its doing a good job just because it lights up the road. my 06 gs300 has much superior lighting. Im looking for good performance, not "bling" lighting. being able to see street signs and racoons without being 5 feet in front of them makes driving at night. if I wanted to look cool I would just throw in some ebay Hid's and call it a day.

Mike go change your old diapers, This question wasn't asked over 1000 times even if you added up all 240 boards in the world. for the record in the 11 threads I dug up on this. they all had you bitching and moaning with no solid evidence on anything. I'm trying to find out from users who have possible ran both types of setup to give feedback.

I got mine from JRT LIGHTING

I don't know if they still advertise here.

Good shit. Plug them right into your headlamps.

When I drove my car with them, it was awesome. Hit up the freeway, BAM, every green sign lights up and flickers because the car is so stiff. People in front of you get out of the way.

It's WONDERFUL.

klear korners approved.

This reminds me of the thread the other day when someone asked for advice then talked shit to Russ (projectRDM).. bad person to talk shit to, considering the guy is a 240SX encyclopedia.

I'de give you the answers you want but apparently, you seem to know more about lighting than I do.

Best of luck, pusscake.

I love how you came in this thread all gung ho full of fucking condescension and now your pretending like you had any intention to help. please... truth is you don't even know, of all the posts I have seen you have never answered a single question. seriously get a fucking life geezer. You contribute zero to this forum in any capacity.

I can't believe I actually considered buying from clear corners. you seem to get off on talking shit behind a keyboard and I dont have time for that so Im ignoring you from now on but feel free to have the last word. also feel free to keep comng back to this thread to continue to talk shit over and over liek you do in every thread you post in on the internet as it seems to complete and justify your miserable existence. never in my life have a I seen a grown man constantly argue over the internet as if he is a juvenile girl.

To everyone else actually willing to help.. I'm not necessarily trying to get the 240 to have the same illumination as my GS300 but I want to have considerabley better lighting perfomance than the 13 year old stock units.

If your housing is not designed for HID its not the best. To me...if you don't blind anyone....WHO CARES!!! What you do to your cars is up to you so long as it doesn't affect my vision when you are coming at me. Cut offs are great and yes i do believe in doing it RIGHT....but if you're gonna do it...at the very least don't blind other people. But clearcorners is great and they offered some information that will stick with me.

I can't believe I actually considered buying from clear corners.

dont worry, the folks who do buy from me laugh their asses off reading my responses to fucktards like you. if you havent figured it out yet, i get my kicks off of putting-down broke, ignorant 240 owners. welcome to the club.

A few People pm'ed me about the info I received on this topic. so I am going to post it here..

"I was just reading up on your post and wanted to give you some advice. I've had both the german glass headlights with hid's and my current set up now and I must say that my current set up is much nicer in terms of lighting up the road and not blinding oncoming drivers. The german glass headlights I had were with a 6k hid kit and the light output was much brighter but only directly in front of me. And they were too bright to oncoming drivers. My current set up has a very wide beam pattern to it and a perfect cut off so its more practical to me. It lights up all 4 lanes on the freeway. Just wanted to help you out. I'm not sure if you saw the pictures I posted but I can send them to you if it helps. And I dont post on this topic because of all the hater's on zilvia. But I totally agree with you about Mike being no help. Later"

His setup consists of TSX projectors with clear lenses. performance sounds Identical to my Lexus.

someone lock this thread already, its been discussed AND answered numerous times throughout the years - hid kits are illegal and a waste of time. we dont need amateurs posting opinions about what they "think" about good and bad lighting. its a fact, hence the reason they are banned for sale in the US.

move on.

Don't lie to us. It's clear you couldn't afford quality lighting if your life depended on it. And you're too fucking stupid to know the difference anyway, just go buy your jank ass FK lens and tape a Maglight in them.

Hahahaha this thread has so many 'zilvia heavyweights' its ridiculous.

Boostage, Mike @ Clear Corners doesn't like plug-in HID kits because even though they are HID, and they do come in H4 housings, they don't look good, or perform better than a good halogen - on top of that, they're illegal and potentially unsafe. All valid points.

Mike even looks down on some HID retrofits lol - cause the stuff he builds is that damned good. Better than OEM quality, literally...

So yeah, no one on here is really interested in that - I'm just happy he's still in business and hangin out here, because if you had asked him for open-ended advice, I'm sure he would have told you his professional opinion - but these threads that basically ask for reasons to buy cheap lighting get old after a decade or so.

My Zenki will stay halogen, because as Aaron pointed out, crappy HIDs (or HIDs in an improper enclosure) are just one more reason to be pulled over.

Brian

You could just run HID setup at the track.
Cool points.

When I see photos of cars at the track that have regular headlights, it's just the same as seeing a baby animal die on the street.

^^^Fucking Brian...stop instigating shit...:bowrofl:

Anyways back to the OP, this thread is starting to sound more like why we should convince you NOT to get "drop in HIDs". Ultimately its your money, your car, only you can make that decision. In the end, best route is still get OEM retrofits on clear lenses since the German lights still have flutes on it. If they didnt, I would be rocking them now.

I'm not trying to be cheap. I'm not rich but I do well and will spend the coin if it's necessary. I just wanted to know what the better route was. if it so happen to be a $1000 retrofit, then so be it. if Halogens on German glass works out to be the same performance for a few hundred less, then that would be the way to go. I didnt ask anyone to save me money, or imply that I want to just skate by for cheap. I just wanted to know the better route to take. I did consider the clear corners tail lights, and that was what I was going to do next after taking care of the fronts.
