My car stalled out once after a curve (3rd gear at 1500RPMs), then on the highway (5th gear at 2000RPMs) and today just rolling in neutral. I don't understand why. I probably lost spark, but where should I look for the problem? Dist. Cap? Get new wires (again)? Anyone with similar experience?

have you had any fuel probs? if you just changed the wires that means you did a tune up. how many miles? if you run crappy gas your fuel filter can get cloged and youll starve your engine. If you think its fuel change the filter. if you want to know how post and ill tell you

Nah, fuel is fine. I'm sure about that. I do 93 Mobil only all the time. I don't switch brands, and I know for a fact that Mobil won't put water into theirs (I had bad experiences with other places). So, I'll probably just check the cap and rotor tomorrow. Thanks!

It still might be the fuel filter or maybe pump (I'm not an expert though). R u the original owner? Call Clik-N-Clak. Hahaha. (Please tell you've heard of them.)

my car had the same-O problem too..my fuel system is messed up...from abuse to the Engine..i notice that when i started doing BAD ASS BURNOUTS....so i used Chevron's Techron to clean out the fuel system..i have to constantly buy the #### botttle and pour it in after a few weeks..it's only because i am too broke to fix it now...hopefully it don't amount to anything major...but you should try it and if it works then it is your fuel system....

i have no idea of what the problem is, but i just wanted to say that i have heard of those two guys. i think the show i s called car talk and they are brothers or something, anyways good luck on the car it would suck if you couldn't make it to the bay area meet. as soon as it gets set up.

From the sounds of it, you are losing fuel or spark (genius, aren't I? ). I tend to agree that it could be a fuel problem. Check your filter and your pump, as something may be clogged. I've heard a lot of complaints about fuel filters going bad on 240s.

As for the water content of your gas - you never really know what's in there. The bottom of a underground storage tank can hold a lot of crap. I know people who only go to certain stations and only fill up more than a day after the last delivery (b/c refilling the USTs stirs up the particulates).

Yeah, this did start happening after I started beating on my car. I should check my fuel system, you guys are right. I am getting much worse gas mileage than usual, that may not be the reason for my stalling out but it's still not a good thing. I'm gonna replace my rotor and dist. cap tonight. I'll also see if I can do my own wires (never done that). And that's all. Thanks so much for your help. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

P.S. I'll try the fuel additives tonight as well. If something goes wrong, I will personally beat your head with a stick. Just so you know! All of you!!!

s13 girl does your car have the hud? werent you complainin that it didnt work? if thats the case my car wouldnt go above 80 (im guessing) till i fixed it.

plugs and wires are not hard @ all just use anti seize

wait after re reading your orignal note you werent even close to 3500rpm which is where the fuel cut off as without my hud working.

i would say check for spark by taking out a plug and cranking the engine if theres spar then its a def fuel prob. but always replace the cheapest thing first. a tune up is the best idea though. then see how she runs

My speedo won't work at all. I'll check the wires again today.

Cat converter?!?! Umm... no. I haven't checked it. I won't do crap with it until I get headers. Never heard of such a thing though.

sometimes when catalic's get old they get(clogged in a way) and sweel(get bigger) and can cause cars to stall or have trouble starting you might want to get it checke d to see if it needs replaced

if your catalic is swollen or if you shake it and can hear stuff rataling around it needs replaced

I honestly doubt it has anything to do with the cat. Sometimes, I think my car breathes too easily. And I think that if the cat were broken, I'd probably hear something in my exhaust. I think...

I doubt it's anything with the cat...... anyway why don't you see if the ECU is throwing up any error's. Be pretty dumb to go inspecting every part of the car when the ECU might tell you whats wrong. (240sx.org has an how to on running error checks if you don't know how)

Thanks, Don! I'll go print the codes right now.

hey whats up with this clogged up cat problem you guys talkin bout...i sorta dropped a washer into my cat..don't ask how..it was wierd and it's in there..and i don't know where it's at either...but after that incident it was when my car started stallin....tell me more about the cat thing...if there is more to it?...

Maybe your guys' cars are more sensitive, but the only time I've heard of a cat stalling something is when the engine is blowing oil than Saddam Hussein. Doubt it's that.

HippoSleek

Yeah, a cat can cause problems, if it gets clogged. Running super rich, like chickenmanq said, will do it. But it is not a random or on/off type of problem. You notice a gradual drop in performance and there is no, "It runs fine, then all the sudden..."

benns - I doubt your problem is cat too. I am not sure, but I doubt a washer could to that much to clog it.

I like cats. That's all.
