So my dog which has never bitten anyone or shown aggression towards anyone bit this little kid that came over. He's done something to him before because my dog is never aggressive but just towards him. And by aggressive i mean excessive barking. Am I held responsible for the injuries? I have a beware of dog sign posted and we've told the lady the dog dislikes her son. The kid was alone when this happen so not sure what happened. All I saw was blood around his cheek.
What's the worst that could happen? :ugh:

Kill the kid and hide the body. Problem solved.
I'm kidding. Don't do that.

I got bitten by a Chihuahua once on my hand (note that im not bragging).
The bite wasn't too deep as there was very little blood.
The worst that happened was that it got a little swollen and itchy.
I just used some bactine and kept some bandages on for a few days.
About the kid, I think how you handle this should be determined by how well you know the family.
In any case, it's best recommended to offer to pay for a doctor to cover your ass,
if you feel inclined that it was your fault.
If the parents are at least semi-responsible, they will do this regardless.
About the kid, did he get permission from you to enter on this particular occasion?
When he entered, was this something you were aware of?

what im worried about is that i havent gotten around to registering the dog with the state. So iunno if he'll be taken away if they sue.
He was allowed to enter the property but no to go outside with the dog. I was unaware until I heard him crying.

His mom knew and she still let him out.
update: the child is fine, and they are not suing, but the humane society people are coming over tomorrow to check out the dog.

Worst case:
Dog is put down. Parents sue (which we already know they aren't)
Best case:
Parents and humane society ask you to apologize and keep the dog indoors or something.

I just watched a semi-similar case about 2 months ago on judge judy. Hahaha. Judge ruled dog owner in favor and held kids mother responsible. Irresponsible parents should be stoned. To the death.

Let the kid bite the dog a bite for a bite that's how I see it...
Is your dog up to date with his shot like his worms and rabbis shot's because that can cause a HUGE problem

yea i agree because no matter the place the parent of the child is still responsible for her child. ESPECIALLY if she is aware of the dog not favoring the child. I would not allow them to put the dog down, and if they do and you really like your dog i would take it to court. Either way good luck man

The worst that can happen?
You pay for the medical charges/therapy and they put your dog to sleep.
Which you'll have to pay for also.

The kid is like 7, he knows damn well what he did to the dog but just wont say. Apparently they were "playing" and it lunged at him. Iunno what happened there. The kids mom knew the danger but didn't look after him.
And the humane society people are suppose to come over and check my dog but have yet to do so.

i think that's bull man you know a 7 year old kid isn't going to own up to pissing a dog off enough to bite him if he did it..you know he most likely did something like hold the dogs mouth shut or smack him or some dumb sh*t

if it happened on ur property, then ur good as long as the kid was traspassing (which in this case he was) and u do have "BEWARE OF A DOG" sign. u shouldnt even worry about it. and if something does happen, then tell everyone that the kid did something to ur dog and now the dog does not like him and therefore it had to bite him cause the kid was too close to the dog, dog got uncomfortable with the kid and bit his face.
p.s. thats why u dont stick ur face infront of any animal!

So you want him to lie?
The child should've been supervised.
You think a seven year old has sense?
Shit, many grown ass people don't have common sense.
A parent wouldn't let their child at that age go around town unsupervised.
The same should hold true when a guest in someones house.

Hmm I hope you have all the necessary shots done on the dog or else you are SOL. They would impound the dog and/or put it down.

yeah, breed will have a LOT to do with the outcome. Why was the kid alone with the dog? Where were you and the kids parents? They will most likely do a temperament assessment on your dog, do a vet history check ect...

seriously screw the parents and kid, they should know better. Imo they were asking for it, kids are stupid and will aggravate a dog. I don't think you should pay for anything, but i guess people favor dumb kids and unreliable parents.

^You're lucky its a small dog and not a dog of one of the bully breeds (Pit bull, bull terrier, etc)...
I got bit on the face by a dalmatian a couple years back. I'll admit it... I was asking for it. It was "begging" for food, so I waved a fry in its face, then ate the fry real quick... The dog didn't appreciate my sense of humor and tried to eat my face. lol
100 bucks says the kid was doing something equally (if not more) stupid.

I have a pitbull, and if this were to happen to me, I'd be fucked.
I agree with what S13silviagirl said, probably just a temperament assessment.
Good luck.

Well i know this sounds weird but my gf got it for me off craigslist and met up with some lady at safeway. I wouldn't condone this. Anyway she told her that he was current with his shots. This was like a month ago. So iuno.
Update: Humane society came by checked the backyard. Twas all good. So he is gonna be home quarantined until the 12th. Cost me $42 but not too bad. So no going outside for nothing or else i get fined $1000. Animal control don't play around.

My friends dad breeds Rottweilers and they had a similar incident...just not involving any kids.
There was a guy fucking with the cable lines trying to steal cable and he fell from his ladder into their backyard, where one of the rotts attacked him. He had a few bites, and he tried to sue. They came and checked out the dog, ready to take it in and euthanize it...but then noticed the "Beware of Dog" signs plastered all over the gates. They told the dude who got bit, "Tough shit" and left.
Instead the guy stealing the cable ended up in some hot water, and some hefty fines.
I'm pretty sure there is nothing that can be done against you. At least if things are the way you say. If you have a beware of dog sign, and instructed the kid to not be let outside with the dog, then I doubt anything will happen. At least this is the way I've seen it happen here in Nevada.
