So my site was lame.
I downloaded a 30 day free trial of adobe photoshop and learned how to use the gradient tool, which turns out to make just about anything look better.
I have no prior experience doing anything but posting on Zilvia, so let me know what you guys think. I know it needs more text content, but that will come with time as I am trying to do a lot of thinks to get some exposure.
I dig it, but I have been looking at the same stuff since 9am so I want you guys to tell me what it needs, I know there are some pretty talented designers out there and computers are not a strong point of mine. But I would like input from anybody and everybody ;)
CHECK IT OUT!!!!!!!
ALSO- big thanks to fishbeinphoto.com for letting me use his sick ass pics

Looks great man. Personal tip, make it more attractive.
Its a bit bland, all the dark space left, well, dark.
Throw some kind of pattern, design, image, something to make up for the general void.
Specific note. Notice the background behind the your text? give it something.
Pick font colors and tones, and stick with it. Dark on (remotely) dark is played out, and doesn't stand out.
Just like art, your site needs to evoke some kinda emotion. action0oriented designs make me smile. So do colorful sites, tastefully done.

Splash pages are not a good idea. A user shouldn't have to click through extra pages to reach the main content. UNLESS there is something mind blowing it should be avoided.
Same goes for long flash intro's. Avoid completely. Analytics will show you how many people click past those techy, long, EXPENSIVE, flash pages. It's a waste.
The dude I'm doing the internship is a web master in ever sense of the word and these are some things he's instilled in me.
slidin_W.O.P, good start on the website. Sooshi hit the nail on the head with his tips. I second his suggestions.
I also think you could use Wordpress and edit that and get even better results. Start with a template and editing that.

Wordpress- thank you sir. I will be googling that from work today.
Yea, this is the beginning. I learned a lot yesterday so I figure if I sit down and fuck with it every night some cool stuff might develop.

Not bad all, even more so with WP being easy. Still the manual codin in Notepad is a pain.
I do all my designs in PS and html/css in notepad.

You still have to get down and dirty with code in WP if you want a custom look.
But yea check that out. And it's free. A couple examples.

WP stands for wordpress I am assuming.
You guys think I should get a trial download of dreamweaver? I used it my sophomore year and it seemed pretty damn easy.
What would you guys recommend for a beginner?

Maybe its just me, that its something about that Z.
You can clearly tell it doesn't sit right. The faded sides help it fit in, but the top and bottom edges are distracting to me. Makes me feel uneasy.
And the empty space next to the model, below the car.
Fill it.

Sit right flush-wise and faded side skirts, or is it website talk...
EDIT: And the space for content needs content, it will be filled when more super exciting things happen

Oh.
Maybe include a mission statement. At first glance, there is too many different things going on, mentioning motorsports, stickers, attire.
From another point of view, I'd be curious and ask "What is Jimmy Up?"
Yes, your slogan underneath mentions it, but its only the tip. Just the tip.
Of the iceberg of course.
And as for the uploaded user gallery, have it randomized. Or Recently added. Not popularity.

i actually like it the way it is. looks very clean and easy to read.
i would however throw some pink up in this bitch because it seems to be the colour that you use quite often.
+1 for jimmy
Do not fill up all your empty space. This is good and is the current trend (the so called Web 2.0 way) in web design.
Current style in web design, web2.0 design style and principles (http://webdesignfromscratch.com/current-style.php)
And CSS is your friend. Here's a good site for CSS layouts.
CSS Layouts: A collection of 224 Grid and CSS Layouts (http://layouts.ironmyers.com/)
Your white border is a bit off as well as the the text formatting. Take a look at this page (its a wordpress template but it also uses a dark color scheme) and notice the use of text formatting/colors.
The Real JDM - Interactive (http://www.bespokeventures.com/blog/)
Dreamweaver is the only WYSIWIG editor I like, but I've been using notepad most of the time.
All in all, I will say this is great first effort and for the most part its a very clean design. Keep it up.
