Ever heard of Jacob's Electronics? They have many many ignition products.

How to check an alternator is just not popping in my head right now. If your not good with electronics then forget about it and have a mechanic look at it.

It could very well be the alternator. But when I had an alternator problem, I could also notice other things in my car not work properly. Lots of things actually. Seat belts (automatic) would take forever to roll back, digital clock wouldn't light up properly, the radio was weak. It would beep slowly when I first start the car or shut doors off... I don't know.

Yeah i was also thinking that, like his lights would be dimmer and stuff, but the alternator makes sense for his problem also....hmmm perplexing

Checking your alternator is simple. Run a voltmeter across your battery positive and negative. It should run 12.5-13 volts. Then turn the car on and do the same thing. It should read about 2 volts higher, in the 14 or 15 something range. This means your alternator is working. Did the new starter you got include a solenoid? Or are they separate? I admit, I haven't looked at mine in a while. Check your grounds. I've had more than one problem stem from a bad ground. It sounds like a solenoid, or something other than ignition.

my friend had this same problem, diff. car tho.
But like a month and a half ago it just kinda got all better.
If only all problems got worked out like that
im expecting it to come back though hehe
I've had the exact same problem on my Datsun 510... of course it's 30 years old, but I'll let you know what I did, first check ground and electrical connections, then make sure you check to see how many volts are making it to the starter solenoid. I was getting voltage drop in my car i was down to like 11 or so instead of 13.2 which I believe is what the "12" volt battery actually puts out. I'm not totally familiar with how the 240's are set up, but if it uses a relay from the key on the ignition to get power to the starter, I'd check that too.
Since, I was having this problem on my car, and couldn't and didn't reallywant to go searching through all my wiring bundles finding the right wire, I just rigged up a push button mounted under my dash that's hooked up to a relay that runs 10 guage straight to the starter, overkill maybe, but I don't have a clicking problem anymore!

CAguy and Drifterx I think are on the right track.
Installing a new ignition system is good and all, but without power to charge them there pretty much useless. Besides if your car had trouble starting at all it is more likely something big like the starter (he's gone down that road) or an alternator. My 2 cents.
