Hey on another subject my new nissan distributor cap and ign. rotor came in this morning, so I put em on shortly after. Everything went smooth but I noticed some differences between the old and new rotor. The new one had like this thin layer of black epoxy looking stuff on the tip of the conductor..I mean the top metal part of the rotor. The old one didn't. I thought it was some sorta protective tape or something at first, so I tried gently prying edge up on the bottom. Didn't peel up and infact a piece of it flaked off about the size of a grain of salt (no biggie), so I assumed it was there on purpose and for good and left well alone.

Car started and drove fine..and I pulled each plug wire to make sure all plugs fired. Also do any of you pack the wire terminals on the top of the cap for moisture? I skipped on that..since i don't plan to spray under the hood any time soon.

thanks

The part the arrow is pointing too, is what had the thin black coating on it. Was I supppose to remove it or or just pop the rotor on like I did and ride?

You're overthinking everything. Stop it. The rotor goes on just as it comes out of the box, there's no prep work. The difference in the two can be attributed to wear, age, corrosion, etc. as the rotor's contact is a ceramic tip with metallic filings pressed into it.

Lol yea I know, but I hate to think I screwed up something, and pay for it in the long run. Thats the way I am when it comes to my car, crossing my t's and dotting my i's constantly. As simple as it was to install, that lil difference had me concerned lol

Thanks though

it's good to see that some people still try to take care of their cars. instead of the "drive-em-till-the're-dead-and-fix-it-then" attitude.

I try..I know some about cars, but every now and then I get puzzled lol. I hate to bother others with my questions sometimes, but then I think if I don't ask what might happen. Not only that it's my only car, so all I got lol.
