i still live at home, got my mom always tellin me i need to go back to school, but the economy sucks dick right now, i wont go back to school unless i get a job first so i wont be uncomfortable commuting to school with no cash so at least take care of my car, gas etc. I dislike the area we live in, doesnt really offer anything imo, so id at least be looking at commuting.

Seriously, after getting axed, I finally stepped back into school. I'm doing damn well, brought my GPA back up from a 1.50 to a 2.97. Financial aide wasn't a help in paying rent, and i am really backdue, and i mean REALLY back due.

actually right now is the perfect time for school, the opportunity cost is low. Goto school find some work-study program, tutor, anything. I myself jsut graduated from UCR and busted my ass my whole last quarter to find a job and right at the very end I found one.

He was talking to a lady that's been here for over 10 years.
He gave her a foldable cart and made her pack her shit and just like that she's out..

Fucked up thing is that she was told she was leaving March 31st and they cut her today...

have to expect that. usually the first to go are the higher level staff people who have more experience and make more money, but their job could be done by less expensive and less experienced staff. unless you're really high level manager or the company can't function without you, then you're probably expendable. seems like that's what's happening to all these engineers in silicon valley.

It actually makes me happy I joined the Air Force. It seems the military is one of the few "companies" out there right now with any kind of job security (I know that's not 100% true, but still).

it was funny because...when i left the company i was working with prior...i was out of work for about 6 months, when i got hired on by a totally diff company (currently working for) it was my old supervisor who got me the job, literally told them f*** the interview just hire me on and they wont regret it... that the kind of back up you need, expecially with times like this...

No offense, but that's one of the most ridiculous excuses I've heard in a while. Who cares what your family thinks about what you want to do as a career and what you want to major in? Just goto school and get that shit over with so at least you'll have something to show on the resume. Hell, I know of some employers that used to hire only students for part time low level work on the basis that at least they're trying to do something with their lives.

Have initiative, that resume, experience, education and references count, especially in today's competitive, almost non-existent job market. The fact that you haven't had a job in a year, and haven't been trying to do anything within it (no schooling) doesn't help a bit. Just do that shit and get it over with.

I'm in fulltime tech school right now, lucky to even work 20 hours a week, I bit the bullet in June 08 and just jumped right into it. It was either this, or (CC transfer which I completed in 07) CSUN as a film major (which I knew wouldn't get me shit - family doesn't believe in me, I tell them to go fuck themselves). I'm scheduled to be done by this time next year, and will be going to CSUN probably in 10-11.

here in CA they do it by point system, they take your accumulated time with what ever business you worked with and take your highest payed quarter (in other words they calculate from the 4 months u made the most), how it is were you are i dunno, we actually get a booklet that shows us were we rank and how much we will get...

happy to hear you will atleast cover bills, word of advice, if they offer to tax each check, do it, because shit will accumulate at the end of the year, take it from someone who went thru it...
