lemmie start by sayyin im clueless. i mean all i have ever know out of 180sx was sr20det and yesterday my friend mentioned ca18det and i said in my mind " there is another option to swapping out my ka243?" lol yes its true and sadd, i also heard that you do not have to do ani wiring harnest mods to fit this motor unlike the sr20 in the 89-90 chassis. but wha ti need help on is dealers who sell this hard to find motors at a low milage and reasonable price. feel me. but as i go on it would be dope if all yallz can send me tech support, info on past swaps, pricing, stock hp and torque numbers.
iight folks im out. wun brandon
There's a search function on this forum that you might find very useful.
That said, unless you have about $3,000 to blow, don't expect to get this engine any time soon!

oooh i hope your flame shield is activated..
anyways you should have posted this in the chat section and not for SALE section.. [ sum1 will move it ]
anyways..
89-90 will be harder to swap a SR20 because of the power steering lines .. but its a extra 100-200 $$ for a shop to do it.
this engine is NOT hard to find they are all over the place you can buy them on eBay for godsake.. [ DONT BUY ON EBAY ]
anyways.. use the search function and hand around the board and you will learn more than you ever wanted to know about these cars
becareful w/ the use of words/phrases like " I WANT TO DRIFT" " I WANT A SILVIA" or " HOW MUCH IS A 180SX"

All of you people suck for trying to flame a new person to the board. You guys were the same (wanting to know) back when you first found out about 240s. Give the guy a break. Most of you (if not all) don't know enough about cars that make you think your the shiet.
He wants some useful info. Thats why these forums are here in the first place. If you're going to post just to flame on someone's knowledge, then don't post at all.

THATS WHAT THIS FORUMS IS FOR!!!!!!!!!!! Where do you think some people got "their" info where you've researched? What gives you the right to flamme on people?
ps. especially when you start out calling people "fellow dorifto's"
oookay? does that offend you? You're just making yourself look stupid. give this guy and the rest of the new people a break.

first off, i didnt flame him. i agree that that is what the forum is for. BUT, this information has already been said many times, and instead of wasting forum space and bandwidth with another repetitive post, the original poster could have simply used the search feature and gotten his answer. if you want to spend time answering every single post like this be my guest.
and what i meant by my ps was that talking like that is basicly asking to be flamed, especially on this forum.

It is true that people should research before they ask such questions. I did alot of searches on questions I had before I posted any questions. You can usually find some good answers by using that search button at the top. I agree that alot of you need to chill out a bit. I have noticed alot of flaming on the newbies lately.

I might also add that coming in and talking like, "shyt, i'm maaad into nissan now y0, dey'z da shizzle in mah nizzle"... that kind of thing annoys the hell out of the majority of the people here, hence the animosity.
When in Rome, u know?
This is why american tourists are hated nationwide, but that's a whole other topic.
I don't think anyone here is meaning to give you a hard time to the point of turning you away, it's just the manner of how you went about asking. Do some research and intell before jumping right in. This is semi-happy little community where we all chat and try to support one another; sometimes people are irritated when a newb comes along expecting people to cater to their questions without (seemingly) making the attempt to figure it out for themselves, or even the right way to ask for help!
We're glad you like Nissan.
We're especially glad that you love Nissan after coming from a Honda background.
Getting a lot of crap for being a newb sux, but we were all there once, think of it as hazing :P

Ok, to be totally honest, you may not get many answers to questions until you start actually trying to follow the rules of the english language. Right now, you sound like a punk (not making judgements, just an observation) and that doesn't usually float to well here.

Yeah, at least drop the honda talk style and speak normal english.
As for your original question, it's been asked so often that people are already too tired of going into it every time someone asks and deal with arguments that arise most often. So yeah, search button ownz.

I don't personally have any problem with someone asking about the CA18DET. It's actually seldom talked about, and I wish people discussed it more. The problem is,

Agree on that one, when I was reading downshift's post early, I couldnt understand what the heck he was saying. But now later on, when I saw the arguement I had understood. BTW Google Owns! I would search there :)

In his defense, there isn't a whole lot of info about the ca18 on this board. Do a search on it on this board yourself, and you would be hard pressed to come up with everything you need to find adn swap one in.
the first sentance of his post was "lemmie start by sayyin im clueless." So help the guy out a little. This is what i hate about this board. I don't mind the newbie questions, i mind the people giving them 20 posts of **** about it. he just wants some info on the engine. yes, he should do a search, but at least give him somthing useful. Constructive criticism is fine, but blatant insults just **** people off, and make everyone on this board look bad.
(sorry - had to get that out)
d0wN5h1Ft, I really don't know much about the ca18. Info's hard to find since they were never sold stateside, and aren't as popular as the sr20. Most of the sites about the engine (in English) are british or australian, but still have good info. Here's a few links you may want to check out:
General Ca18 info: http://members.iinet.net/~sayers/biscuits/ca18.htm
As far as wiring, here's a diagram for the ca's ecu: http://www.users.on.net/ovington/techinfo/page2.html
This is from the archives forum on the board. It has the history of silvias and 180sx's. Its a good read if you just getting into the 240 scene, and also lets you know what the ca18 came in:

Same here. When I got here, there weren't even 1000 members--and there wasn't a search function. But, I read through EVERY post there was to see what I could learn without asking questions. Now, there are over 6k members, hundreds of thousands of posts, and a great-working search function. Please use it. Here's a free link--and it's clickable:

3 things:
1.) "d0wN5h1Ft:" Your posts border on illegible. It has to end up taking you more time to figure out how to spell all that crap than it would just to type it in English and have the board understand what youre saying. It gives me a headache, I can translate my Russian car magazines with less stress than reading your post.
2.) Man, some people are total dicks.
3.) " Archangel:" Thanks for the links on the second page, found them very useful.
I have also been looking at the CA18DET, but besides its relative anonomity (a big plus for me) I can't find too many advantages. Ultimate power seems to be the same, cost is around the same (maybe even more expensive, when you consider that parts are cheaper for the more popular SR20DET stateside) and its older and harder to find in good shape. That said, from what I have read its a got a lot of really good features and is more fun to rev than the sr20. The work would be around the same to swap, so it really depends on what you wanna do. Someone pointed out that with older redtop or ca18det clips, you are looking at an engine that is probably 10 years old or more, which might not be the best foundation for a car you plan to tune.
I can't say one is better than the other, but people have used both and had huge success... look for the thread about the 600 plus HP CA18det silvia running a 10 second 1/4.
