Hey guys, I'm trying to get some info for my RISKY DEVIL friends about track abuse at Willow Springs.

We are trying to figure out typical tire abuse and whatnot. It's hard for ME to say, because I have a stock KA

So, if you have some good experience there, could you list your info.

general engine power. tire choice, size.

how long do they last, etc...

thanks!

all of us that plan on making it are:
250whp+
18inch wheels
Tire ranges from 225 - 255

Do you guys have water/oil temp issues?

YoungGun

Well I don't have as much power as you guys but...

I use nexen in the rear they're 300 treadwear, they pop maybe an hour before the day is over. 215/40/17

I would guess you guys are using grippier tires, you'll probably pop new tires in a half day if not faster.

No temperature issues, just turn your fans on while running.

It gets pretty hot out there.

I used to hit like 110 degrees on my oil sometimes
Probably 95 on water.

Then again, my engine wasn't in tip top shape.

Cody, which model nexxen do you use...unfortunately i'll be on a super tight budget and i think i might be turning to those tires.

Do you guys have a tire changer at the event?

YoungGun

I run feddi 225's on the rear, and was pushing around 275hp when i hit up htm last.

I have gotten new tires bald in one 30min session when i was going ballz out the entire time.

If you try and conserve tires like most normal people a pair of new rubber should last you half a day.

last ASB i bought 8 feddies and used 4, but the first day I was not running.
I think if you bring 6 tires you should be more than good!

the citytire online guys will be there changing tires.

i'm sure City tire can get you guys hooked up with some Feddy 595s

nexxens are cheap as fuck, their grip level sucks so don't run them in the front, but smoke them bitches in the back all day.

Brian

Yeah City Tire should be there.

You don't even have to bring tires... they'll do it for you

I run feddy 595 235/40/(18/17) on HTM and they will last me like 1/4-1/2 the day on a stock SR.

o it gets superrrrrrrrr hot out there.

cars are getting towed by a shipping company, things are not set in stone yet with how we're getting there.

how did you like them? It's not like there isn't any grip back there.

I run a 245 cooper on the back and I have 250whp

I've noticed they'll last quite a while longer if I space out my laps nice and easy, but if you're going back to back and burning the life out of em, you can kill your tires in 6 laps on a hot day (I'm sure faster for the guys with lots of power)

You can make 3 fresh pairs last all day on the back if you are mindful of your tires getting really hot and burning really fast

htm
need about 6 tires i say
i make about 360 rwhp

6 tires should be fine. u can do 4 but u gotta be more cautious and not drift EVERYWHERE.

as far as temps
hahahaha
99% of the people are stitting adn cooling in the summer
lose the thermo
run a huge oil cooler
make sure ur clutch fan is tip top
bring a water sprayer and if u have to, no bumper..but thats for wussies

my car im usually around 80c at most 90c a session (approx 20 min sessions), drift down the hills and cool up the big hill. thats what i do. works pretty good.
but my cooler is huge, my radiator is good and i dont run a thermo (cut apart) and a vented hood.

since city tire is there
dont bring any tires
just pre order stuff. its sooo much easier.

i'm making like 230-240whp and my car weighs a ton
typical tire usage is about 2 new pairs of 235/40/17 595s at 35psi cold
and that was most of the day at the last asb

it seriously all depends on your style and how much of the track you decide to drive
if you just drive the Top Drift judged section then you should be fine with about 2 pairs

nexen 3000 tend to last the longest out of any tire I've tried. I'm KA. I've killed 3 pairs of federals on the course drifting everything. You might go through a pair with a KA all day. bring two pairs of 3000 and you are good for the day. Lil Jack ran a pair of 3000 for two events haha.

20 minutes of HTM is a LOT of seat time.

does city tire have nexens?

are they cheaper than feddy ss595?

i need less grip for rears :-/

fckillerbee
02-23-2009, 02:40 PM
I know DTC has nexens. and they are usually about 10 bucks more...but well worth it. Raise the tire pressure to 50, and you'll get some smoke out of them haha.

2 pair nexen 3000 last summer at ASB
tires last quite a while, they tend to chunk off a bit
but cheap tires overall with a rb 250whp over heating every run(fucking front mount) 130 degree weather

ps new setup see you guys this summer ASB WHoo

It doesn't matter how much heat you have. It matters how much heat you bring.

My car last made 292whp. I usually use 4-6 tires on HTM depending on who I'm driving with. If I get in a good group of drivers we're hotlapping and the tires are gone in 1/2 to a full session.
