hey do you guys know where to buy one of those electronic valve silencers? it slides inbetween the catyltic converter and the cat back exhaust and you can regulate how much exhaust flow goes. i wanna get one of those i remmeber seeing it before i just can't recall the company. was wondering if it'd work with a 2.5" exhaust system as well.

please let me know if you know thanks!!!!

apexi makes it. Enjuku sells it, and I'm sure other vendors could get it for you too.

I ran the manual version of that valve. Worked great. No complaints. Ran it for a couple of month before totalling my car. Sold it off to a buddy of mine.

ohhhh, which size did you run? i got a 70mm exhaust around 2.5"+ and the frsport has the 80mm version only. would that 80mm fit my 70mm? or would it be to big??? ready to buy one just wanna make sure it'll fit before i get it.

thansk for the help!!! really appreciate it damn coppers!

80mm is gonna be too big bro. just get the correct sized one for your exhaust. i currently have the manual cable version and it seems to work pretty well. mine kinda rattles a little when not engaged, but i got over it

I ran an 80mm on my 80mm pipe RSR Ex-Mag. No rattles and raspy when engaged at the wrong angle. I just found the sweet spot when I wanted it quieter, and it never rattled or made noise when it was fully open.

im currently running a stock cat with a 3" catback, would the 80mm ECV clear the stock cat or would i have to run a 3" test pipe. or should i go with the 70mm ECV instead.

mine makes rattling noises too sounds like a little door bell ringing =/ pretty annoying. any ideas on how to get rid of it? there is only a few ways to mount it... mounting it with the throttle cable downwards = scrapping it =/ i just experienced that today lol.... so i tried to remount it with the throttle cable upwards and now it can't be pulled with the cable because of the odd mounting position. the bracket that it comes with needs to get an extension downwards to mount that up. ima try to buy a bracket and mount it tommorow maybe that'll fix that rattling and annoying ass door bell sound.

the rattling sound only occurs when the car is in motion too oddly enough. when standing still it works perfect =/ is this apexi idea of a good product??? or am i just installing it wrong lol.

mine installs perfectly fine, it just rattles a little...dunno why either. consult the manual it came with, it tells you how to install it properly

ohhh, i'm sure i installed it properly, but then again i can't read japanese either... but the pic basically shows it being installed after the cat. and to have the throttle thing facing downwards. so, hopefully my pic reading abilities are ok =D did you use the gaskets it came with? or did you use the metal oe ones? ima try both and try to see what's up.

so any of you guys running 80mm with stock cat or test pipe.

rb25crazy

should be the same regardless. the only thing u might run into is that the cat might hit the butterfly. i don't think the opening of the stock cat is 80mm. i think you'd need a test pipe or something. or maybe you can just grind down the butterfly a little bit. just my thoughts but who knows. btw this thing does work great really makes your shit quiet like a mofo. i just don't like it's mounted atm and going to remount it upwards not downwards like they want because of clearance issues.

I put it where the mid pipe bolts up to the axle back. Best place IMO.

ohhhhhhh wow that's a good idea ima try that out. i wonder if it'll reach long enough that wire thing.

thanks!!!! great idea why didn't i think of that.

works out great man! thanks for that great tip saved me lots of time =D. only thing that i have about this product is that it's still sorta loud even at full closed. guess having headers and what not doesn't help all that much either.

when the butterfly valve is 100% closed, does it block all exhaust flow?

rb25crazy
02-25-2009, 10:45 AM
nah, the butterfly has a lil gap like 1 mm around it to the flange body. maybe a lil bigger or smaller give or take, but i guess that's just to let some exhaust flow even when fully closed.

Are there any negative effects to running it with 100% closed? (besides power loss of course) does it matter if the car is n/a or turbo?

No, it closes only up to 80%.

Really? My RSR Exmag with my DC Sports header was super quiet when I set it to like 75% closed. No rasp and perfect volume for driving around town.

hmm I'm pretty interested in this... couple more questions.

(1) looks like ragnarok kinda asked the same question... but it 3" = 76.2 mm. Will the 80 mm valve clear a 3" exhaust?

(2) is the apexi valve electronic or mechanical? Looks mechanical to me?

edit: answered my own question for #2... they sell both electronic and mechanical

80mm is roughly 3 inches. That's what I ran on my 3 inch Ex-Mag. It can be either mechanically controlled through a pull lever, or electronically controlled, but the latter is much more expensive. I just ran the cable through a plug in the floor pan under the seat and the pull lever sat between my seat and the center console. Hidden from view but very easy access.

actually it is pretty quiet now hehe. well, it's a lot more quiet once the car is under load. when it's not on load and you rev it, it's quite loud still. but, yeah good stuff =D glad i got it.

I got one for my car last year. Manual Apexi type. Didn't reduce much noise on idle, but cruising on the toll roads, it made a huge difference.

unfortunately i dont have that option, im running a Buddy Club Spec II which doesnt use a flange in the midsection. i guess id have to run a test pipe or would a 70mm bolt up to a 3" catback.

rb25crazy
02-26-2009, 12:11 AM
well, the 70mm could bolt up, if you got your stock dummy cat just measure that flange. if your 3" catback or w/e bolts onto that stock dummy cat flange the 70mm should bolt up to it as well. i got the 67mm one which is pretty much a 70mm just a minor difference. don't hold me to this now hehe, just what i observed when i did my install.

hope it helps

^^ I have a BuddyClub Spec II too and the first thought after reading that was damn I don't have a mid-pipe =(

Regaurdless I'm about to check out this link and pick up one of these because the Spec2 & Test Pipe is loud as fuck on heavy throttle.
