My car was down for about a month, and I'm guessing the alternantor died. So I swapped out the dead one with a spare I had laying around.

Now when I first start the car, the lights are all dim, then as I start driving, everything brightens up. Also there seems to be some kind of squealing noise coming from the alternantor. My guess would be the bearing in the pulley.

Has anyone had this happen before, and also can I use the pulley from a KA alternator?

Yes, sounds like it's going out. From what I've seen the pulley is different.

make sure the belt is tight enough?

AN UPDATE:
was working on the car this past weekend, found the plug to the alternator to be dirty with a little corrosion. So I cleaned up the plug and the insert on the alternator, no more problem what so ever.

Though the pulley still makes a bit of a noise, so I think I'm going to swap the pulley from the last alternator over to the one that works.

The pulley is a cast piece, so it can't 'make noise'. You're probably hearing either belt noise or a bearing inside the alternator.

I'll have to look into it further

Don't know what alternator you are using but you just need to make sure you are using the SR pulley. The KA alternator works fine, just have to swap pulleys
