ok ive been doing some research about dry sump oil systems for quite a few months now, off and on here and there.
today i was looking into the dry sump oil pumps and they had different stages.
stages 1-6.
so school me on why and what are the differences from different stages.
is it just the ports on the pump that feed different things on the motor. like oil filter, oil cooler, etc etc?
ive did a quick search and couldnt find any information on why they have these different stages.
and how many ports (in/outs) would i need.?
thanks in advanced

nobody has anything.
well did a lil more digging and found something about having more than a sigle stage setup and all it does is pull vaccum and takes out all the blowby/crankcase gas's out of the crank case.
somebody confirm this.

Sorry I can't really help you but
Are you trying to set up a dry sump oil system?
The only car I've heard setup like that is some Porsche
Just curious

there are plenty of cars that use dry sump oil pumps, they are aftermarket kits, unfortunatelly no one actually manufacturers a kit for the sr as far as ive seen but if they did it would be about 5k

The stages simply stand for how many "gears" are in the pump to do the pumping/sucking of the oil.
A 4 stage means it has 3 scavenge(from dry sump pan) and 1 pressure to feed the engine.
A 3 state means it has 2 scavenge and one pressure.
And so on...every stage is an in and an out.
The Scavenges on one side usually combine together and output to one out put on the opposite site and go to an oil cooler and then to the dry sump tank. The feed for the pump is on the bottom of the dry sump tank and feeds the pressure stage of the pump, the opposite side goes to the engine block and feeds all of the engine.
The individual ports dont go to like....turbo and oil cooler and so forth.
A typical Nissan setup should only really need a 3 or 4 Stage.
Just a heads up, dry sump is EXPENSIVE. The AN lines to do a setup for this alone are costly. At over $25 a foot for -12 and -16 line you're looking at a hefty price tag in lines alone.
