Does anyone have any source for superchargers for a 96 ka24e? It's a truck, so I'll have lots of room. Don't know if they make a direct fit, or if I should get a generic and make it work. Also, will a supercharger screw up an ECU? Eventually, I may put in a Jetchip ECU. In fact probably before the supercharger, but I don't know anyone who's done it. Help!

www.unstable-hybrids.com is working on a unit for the SOHC 240's. They're basically modifying a GM s/c to fit. I assume it would work on the truck KA as well...but it's not yet in production and I don't know of any others. An ecu upgrade probably wouldn't be mandatory unless you plan to really up the boost to where the stock ecu won't supply enough fuel and you run lean.

Sounds interesting. I kinda figured it'd be like that. Thanks.

nonono, interesting would be a CA18DET swap in the pickups. My daddoo has a '95 Nissan with the KA engine. Not the quickest things on the road. . . .

Well misnomer, sounds like you daddoo hasn't fiddled with the engine enough. I'm holding my own against 4 liter Cherokees with stock tires. I haven't even got the ECU upgrade yet.

And actually, even more interesting would be throwing a 350 in the pickup, which I'm going to do if I ever get out of NAU. I love sleepers, which is basically what my truck is now. Then again, it can always be faster.

have you thought of a turbo?...I got a 93 hardbody 2.4 .running 14.9's but that's not enough...so t3 turbo going on this month..early estimates are that it will run from mid to high 13's..it all depends on the traction...If you want I'll keep u updated on it...but don't go Chevy on it.stick with imports....single cams still kick a$$

I'm sure some of you all ready saw the SR powered truck. I'll post the link if your curious, the truck it's self looks like a big bag of rice but the SR swap looks nice

I've thought of pretty much anything to make the truck faster. Just limited by time and money, as usual. NissanDude, was that 14.9 without the turbo? If so, what all have you done to it?

Cal18guy, the engine does look heavenly. Thanks for the link.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone heard of using a turbo AND supercharger? A guy I know said someone told him it was possible, and he was checking it out last time I heard. I can't see where it would benefit, much less be possible. You guys think that's a load of hokum.

Yup, it has been done before. I forgot what car had it done , but they used the supercharger for the low end power, and the turbo for high end.

I would love to see that. Have to go check the web later. Thanks.

basically, supercharger=no lag, turbo=high hp, so when you use them together, you have a great power curve. i've seen it on a couple cars, but very $$$$

very custom

oct. issue of super street had a supercharged and turbocharged 2000 acura integra type r. it's a b18c5 w/ hks twin charger sysem, supercharged, turbocharged , and intercooled. all about 20 lbs of boost.

same reason you use NOS and a Turbo.....no lag

Heres a generic question brewed up by the engine shot of the SR truck. Would it be more effective price wise and performance wise, to install a smaller intercooler under the hood, rather then a front mount intercooler? This question refers to KA an SR turbo motors.

my question........... if they make a supercharger for the 240sx S13 SOHC, would it fit under the hood? also would it fit under the hood with a tower bar?

konkman
11-05-2001, 01:21 PM
I don't know about a tower bar, but I don't see why one wouldn't fit under the hood. The Supercharger would sit next to the motor and maybe stick up a little bit, but not enough to need a new hood.

A top mounted intercooler wouldn't be as effective b/c you're trying to cool the intake air with warm engine bay air. It may be as good as front mount if you have a vented hood or scoop, but otherwise the front mount is the way to go.
About the clearance issue...if someone ever makes a s/c for the KA, I'm sure they'll be sure to orient it so there will be ample clearance for the STB and hood. It's all just a matter of angle and placement.

That or the company will be really smart and make it high enough so a standard bar won't fit, then market their own design bar specifically for their supercharged clients.

It's all about the Benjamin's Baby!

I second that opinion. That is if it happens. We still have plenty of room under our hoods.
