but they do have an exchange program!
Just submit an offer that makes sense. CHRA exchanges are not that affordable... (not cheap)
Ball Bearing Service Program
Garrett takes great pride in the quality of its turbochargers and tests them extensively (http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbobygarrett/tech_center/why_garrett.html). However, sometimes the unthinkable happens and a turbo fails. Garrett now provides the option to exchange a failed or used CHRA for credit on a new CHRA at an affordable price!
The program requires you take the following steps:
1. Make sure your unit is covered by the program by contacting a Garrett Performance Distributor.
2. Send your used CHRA* to one of Garrett's Performance Distributors (http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbobygarrett/distributor_locator/garrett_performance_distributors.html) for inspection.
3. Purchase a new CHRA at a discounted price!
"*At a minimum, the center housing must be re-usable to qualify for this program. The Garrett Performance Distributor will determine the condition upon receiving the CHRA and has final say in the applicability of a CHRA for this program."

garret doesn't take much pride in ther products, look up Charlie at Evergreen Turbo (one of the foremost turbo experts in the state of Florida, hell, he plays golf from time to time with the VP of honeywells Garret turbines)... i brought my brand new, in the garret box Pulsar GTi-R turbo (TB2804) to him for upgrade.... there was USED parts in my NEW turbo, he said "if the service guys at Garret have used parts that are still within Garrets standard of "spec" they will reuse them" i guess that comes from their little "exchange program"...even though my part was .01 from being out of spec, they still put it in their "new" turbo... i had used parts in my new turbo, sheesh.....
anyways, Charlie tore down my turbo, put all new parts to HIS specs, and upgraded everything.... he even recommends get any new turbo, rebuilt and spec'd due to the fact he's a performance turbo shop, and Garret is a production line...
the Pulsar turbo is almost the same as the BB turbos, same housing, etc.. but it has the availablity to be rebuilt on the cheap. without having to exchange turbos and buy one at a discounted price....
i'm not plugging the Pulsar turbo, i just learned alot from Charlie in my time there... he used to build race motors in the 80's, then he was a mechanic on the Merlin engines on the P-51 mustangs (WWII fighters in case you didn't know), and now he runs his own specialty turbo shop, and is in CLOSE contact with Garret as the majority of the turbos he rebuilds, services, are made by the honeywell company... so i have my faith in him... if you bring him you GT2860/71r, he'll say "sorry bout your bad luck bro"...
the Pulsar TB2804 is almost exactly the same as the BB T28's, exhuast housings, high flow compressors, and for $800 new, and with the ability for a rebuild for around $150 if needed, to me, that beats about any BB out there... just for cost effectiveness.. and they flow, and hit just about the same with thier high flow comp wheels and turbines...
just a thought....
