Why do you want a needle bearing type? My truck came with needle bearing from the factory, they are toast as soon as dirt gets inside them. I switched it out for the solid type pilot bearing.

How would dirt get into your input bearing on an SR20 lol? The input shaft completely covers the opening to the driveshaft where the bearing sits.

Besides, a needle bearing with dirt in it will act just like a brass bearing lol. No downside.

And they're like $10 shipped. Can't beat it.

Inside the bellhousing is a very dirty environment for a bearing. I think the difference is just that there is space inside a needle bearing for things to get inside, where the brass bearing is a tight fit. The needle bearings only contact the input shaft at a few points leaving room for things to get in and fuck shit up.

Thats for the input shaft -> bellhousing, I assumed he meant input shaft -> driveshaft (which you replace every clutch swap, hopefully).

ok well the standard bearing part # is :::

62TKC4001
NSK is who makes it

however, when you buy a replacement there is others that will work with it and look slightly differnt. i think the new ones now are differnt. and are a generic NSK one but still works.

this bearing part # is out of a original s13 redtop 5speed, untouched dead standard from factory.

That's a throwout bearing, not an input shaft bearing. This thread is so full of confused fail.

Throwout bearing - releases pressure plate, rides on input shaft sleeve
Pilot bearing - fits into crank to reduce wear on input shaft
Input shaft bearing - sits behind transmission front cover

Three completely different parts.

Just as i said before, so that means my first post was CORRECT.

but im assuming the topic starter is confused, not myself.

srry to revive a thread but I need some info, I searched here and on many sites. but this is the closest to my questions. Is there a bearing on the right side of this assembly? because that shaft is really ''Free'' and there is alot of play with the rest of the assemblies.(pulled the bellhousing and tail out)
thx
