Why would you do that to a 180sx ? Did you import the car, RH, SR20, etc .. must be nice
 :p
Ok, but serious, that's not a bad deal at all. Where in socal are you getting this done ?

I was looking around a few years ago for a power sliding moonroof in my old car, and the lowest price i could find on just the moonroof w/out installation was around $300.

Hmmm sounds kinda interesting. Where did you get this quote? Do you know anything about the quality of their work or reputation?

just an fyi - if you don't already know..
Adding a non-factory installed Sunroof will cause the cars structure to be much weaker. You'd have flex in the chassis like a convertible.. lessening the chassis stiffness means your suspension doesn't have to work as hard, because the chassis can now soak up a lot more of the energy from the bumps in the road. = Decrease in cars ride quality b/c you are also soaking up that energy.
And, you'd be adding a lot of weight to the top of the car.
high CG = bad

Yeah, unless you don't push your car, avoid the sunroof. It will weaken your chassis, do pretty much everything chimp said (though maybe not as severely as he implies ;-) ). Another big word of caution is aftermarket sunroofs have a nasty tendency to leak (both noise and water), as it is very difficult to get a proper seal on something that wasn't designed for it.
Do you have a sunroof now? Are you aware of the wind noise? I have a factory flipup on my '92 fastback, and the wind noise really gets annoying.
Essentially, go for the sunroof if you want. They are quite slick and all, but go into it with your eyes open, and know what will be different once it's done.
Lastly, don't call it a 180sx or silvia unless it IS a 180sx or silvia. That can be confusing as hell when we try to answer questions. Call it a 240sx fb, s13 fb, something like that. I don't want to start a war over nomenclature, just want y'all to know how much of a pain in the ass it can be when you are trying to answer a question, and you are answering it for the wrong car.

yes i have a flip up roof on my FB and it does gett anoyying for all that noise past 50MPH.. most the time i just leave it open.
i understand the weight issue
but i dont understand the chasis weakness
if the car is already equipted withe a sunroof/flip up
then the top/roof should already be stiffer to compensate for that big hole/gap in the roof no? .. so adding a powered sliding version shouldn't do anything to make ride worst?

It all depends on how it is installed and what must be cut to do it. A sunroofed s13 will be noticeably more flexible than one with a solid roof (a couple folks here have had both and can attest to that). Then you are going to take this and cut out more steel from the roof to make room for motors and pulleys. I can't say how this will effect stiffness, it's never something I've explored. You may or may not notice it.
You've probably looked at your roof and found out where exactly the window will have to open if you want it to slide (on top over the back). It's by no means an easy task, but if you use the sunroof a lot, it may be worth it.
