View Full Version : Road trip in a fastback

I have some crazy friends. Three of them drive Saturn SC2's. One needs tires, one guy doesn't want to drive his because it's new, and the other ones parents won't let her take the car.
So that leaves all of them in my S13 fastback for a 12 hour trip to Florida!
I also have access to a brand new Tahoe, but they would rather have the (better) gas mileage of my fastback.
That's nuts.

i hope your friends are short and your car doesnt have my car's suspension hahahaha
4 hour trips become pure misery at times.

There is no possible way that anyone can even fit behind the drivers seat in my car. May there be mercy on your legs.

My question is: Where will the luggage go? Better pack light and recruit new friends. The ones you have right now will no longer speak to you after the trip:D

I've driven my car by myself for 6 hours before... I wouldn't want to put anyone in the back, though.

Not that an SC2 is that much better.

I've affectionately named the backseats "The Crippler"

Heh, it was me in the driver's sit, my friend in the passenger's, and 5 tiny chicks (size wise) in the back sit.... 4 of them actually managed to sit normally and only one lay across....

I once fit 9 people , 4 of which were big guys in my Escort ZX2. But no one who has ever ridden in the back of my 240, EVER, wants to go back there. Although I did manage to "hit it" in the back of my 240 with the seat folded down, but thats no road trip.

Yeah, my friend owns a 240 too. I get to ride in the back sometimes.... it's fine as long as noone else is there, cuz he lets ppl put feet on the other seat hehe

Well, one person is 5 foot flat, maybe 110 lbs. It won't be a problem, but I am still trying to convince them that an SUV is better.
SC2s are not that much bigger.

I've taken 13 hour trips in my 89 hatch with me and a girl, and there were no complaints. now that I have free flowing exhaust, the exhaust drone makes me weary on trips longer than 4 or 5 hours, but the silencer helps.
two nights ago I had 5 people in my car... slipping the clutch cause I couldn't get my foot back far enough to let it up... god... I won't drive for more than an hour with 3 people in the car. 4 people I limit to maybe 15 minute jaunts or avoid completely. 4 people on a roadtrip?
thats ****ed up.

fold down the back seats and put some padding and have the 2nd smallest guy ly down.. and then have the girl ly on top of him

and you drive and the biggest guy sit shotty..

it will make an interesting trip if any. =)

Stories outlined above are the reason why my fastback only has 2 seats... :D Although I've fit 3 of us in there before, the poor guy who had to sit in the back (on the floor pan) had some regularity problems for the next few days and has since left the country (hopefully not because of me) for good. :)

the most I have had in mine was 4, and I will never have that many in my car again. I couldn't feather the clutch for sh*t.

people capacity: 2 people and a midget with no legs i think that best sums up the experiance. Whenever i drive even small distaces, if my friend dont get shotgun, they fight, bicker and i usualy am at the point of leaving them cuz noone wants to lay in the back, suckers..

Same with my friends. Right when they step out of the house or werever we are, they start yelling shotgun and race each other to my car and start b*tching about how small the back seat is.

done 11 hours with 3 people roatating in mine. couldn't imagine four though. we put a couple pillows in the buckets in the back and laid accross the seat and naped. every few hours we rotated.

Three isn't bad if you can free up the majority of the backseat, I've pulled that off before on a ~9 hour drive. Four. . . can make it alive for a shorter distance (usually), but try to talk them out of it. Start by all going to dinner or something like that in your car. Then ask them if they want twelve hours of it :P

I went from Gibsonville, NC to Atlanta last week with my moms and 6 year old niece in the car and my niece complained of numb feet in the back seat when we got there, and we had stopped twice on the way... On the way home, we fed her and made her used the bathroom, she was sleep before we were out of atlanta and stayed that way the entire 4 hours 25 minutes (my personal record for the 363 mile trip), but MY hips hurt when I got to the house... More power to you, I would have greatly appreciated the use of a different car if I hadn't been going to the 240s over atlanta meet.

good luck, i took a trip with my girl from cincy to gatlinburg and had to put down the seat for our bags(we stayed 5 days). I'm glad to see that my friends arent the only ones that bitch about the s13 backseat...

At this point, it is looking like it will be the national convention in august, but the guys get together @ Murph's crib and have what they call "install parties" all the time... While I was down there, we removed my clutch fan, scouted a problem I was having with a low idle and worked on an electrical problem. I'm trying to get back down sooner though, I have fam down there too, so I'll let you know when I plan to go...

I've had a 5 foot short friend ride in the back. He sat laying down, as there's no way in hell anyone could ride in the back with their feet in any sort of normal position. It really is a 2+2.

But then again, my car is for me only, and occasionally my girlfriend.

it would be straight torture having to sit in the small ass backseats for more than ten minutes, i pity whoever is gonna be back there
