I have cash in hand to buy my 1st 240sx. But I'm torn between and s13 and the s14, I love em both and don't know which one to buy.

So any input on why you chose an s13 or an s14 might help me lean towards one and buy it already lol.

Thanks!!!

Can't let people decide for you.

S13 = cheaper to buy. Easy access to parts from local junk yards.

S14 = slightly more expensive. A bit of a pain coming across parts.

Just do what everyone is doing now. S13.4

S13s are older and generally require more money to bring up to condition, though it is getting tough to find good S14s as well.

+1 on the parts, lots of people here have 13s. i personally have the 14 cuz i love airbags lol. kidding about the airbags, but of course having a newer car doesn't hurt.

s13 = great track car, many parts available cheap. more parts available cheaper.

s14 = great daily driver, good for track but parts are not as cheap as s13.

I understand your point, I don't want people to decide for me.
I just want to know what people love about their s13 or s14, and maybe it will help me make my own decision. That's all I'm really looking for.

But it seems like the best argument people are giving so far is how cheap and available parts are for the s13.

if your going to drift or track your car go with s13

if your going to have it as a first car, drive it around town, slightly modify it and have fun while looking pimp - s14

Good point, this isn't a daily driver. I have a modified GTI as my daily. This is a weekend track car.

After lookin a shit load of pics I really love the s13 front end conversion.

The choice has been made. Thanks for you input everyone.

Why decide? I'd just look for one to buy.. you'll have more to choose from

I wanted a 97-98 Kouki, when I first started looking
I got into Zenkis but I only wanted a 95 for OBD1

found a near pefect 95 soon after
slicktop ( wanted )
5 lug ( mine was base 4-lug )
white ( love )
manual from factory ( yes )

I used to live in Rancho Cucamonga btw

B/c I found a black 95 for $1800, 5spd bone stock and a primered 91 for around $2000 slightly modded (coilovers, lsd, brakes, intake and rims).

LoL Im sick of living in Rancho, nothing to do out here.

I have a 95 s14. I kinda wish i would have gotten a s13. I think there amazing with the s15 or s14 conversion. I just like the hatch. Both are great track cars and can look great.

You cant go wrong with a 240....

Exactly wat i was gonna say...
Parts for the S13 is cheaper but the S14 is newer and a lil more pimpin in my opinion

I had enough for the S14, but I stayed with the S13 since i have more experience with them and it's cheaper to get parts for it.

S14's aren't anything special anymore, they're old now too, just buy whatever you get a good deal on.

Wow, I suggest you think hard and make up your mind. We cannot make up your mind for you.
Why do I say this?

I have never seen so much indecision over parts and cars as I have seen in this community these days.

Do you guys have minds of your own? Or do you just look for convenience regardless of quality?

Look for someone to tell you what you must do. Getting peoples opinions is fine but shit man you have to make the call.

Picking a car is very personal thing, you are the one that's is going to live with it not us.

Go out and drive both cars, figure out which one you enjoy driving more, then make your purchase.

Buy an S13 save yourself the trouble and pain in the ass of finding parts... just for a door panel of a S14 it can cost you up to 100 dollars while an s13 one like 15 bucks :fawk2: big difference i should have gone s13 :rant2:

to me a s14, drive both and see which one you like. I like how the S14 seems to rotate in a turn vs a s13 which follows the front wheels. Also a S14 feels more balanced because of the gas tank placement. If your planning to build a track car the cost for parts (non oem) is about the same new. Used parts are cheaper for the S13.

Angry Panda has it the same way I think.

S14 seems to steer more towards the center.

S13 seems to steer more from the front.

I've had them all, and I don't see the huge deal though.

Go with what you like.

Parts are no harder to find for a s14 than they are s13.

I've had fascinations with them all.

Right now I'm currently into s13 coupes again.

LoL. Learn to read before getting so excited. I'm not asking for people to make a decision for me. I just wanted to know how people felt about there own s13/s14. Which only a few people have actually answered. READING and actually COMPREHENDING goes a LOOONG way.

But I appreciate the concern.

To throw some light on your situation, Some 95's where made pre-OBDII, I forget the dates in which they stopped putting OBDI in them, If you look it up, you can tell by your door sticker by the date it was manufactured. Who knows, someone could have switched em.

BTW, with the s13 or s14 question, my personal taste is the s14 kouki, It's what I have, but you could get a zenki and get a conversion, or w/e. I just think s14 generally look better, but I do appreciate s13's too. Bottom line, it comes down to what you want and/or car about in a car. S13's are most times an immense amount of work to even restore to stock condition, and if you're like me you'll be looking all over the place to find even the smallest parts, just so your car would have precisely everything it's supposed to. It's easier to do with S13's than S14's, but some S14's came with VLSD or HICAS, but most get rid of HICAS anyway. S14's are newer and of course have a new set of engineering ideas to make it better than the S13, but S13's are cheaper. Again, it's your personal taste.

I really appreciate those who took the time to input "useful" information.
The decision has been made and I'm going to try and pick up one of 2 s13s Im looking at tonight.

One is bone stock and in SUPER clean condition. And the other is tastefully modded already.

Thanks again! And I'm excited to be joining a new tuning scene aside from the Euros.

if i were you, i wouldn't get something that has already been modded. You're buying this car so you can modify it aren't you? If so, then look for a completely stock one.

right now, i have both, s13 and s14 and i prefer the s14.

If I could do it over, I'd get an s13. Cheaper, and my newb ass would be less worried about my car being out of commission after a bad day at the track.

For me, yea s14's are nice daily's, good cars ect. But theres something about an s13. Its more aggressive, "meaner", and feels more racecarish when you drive it. I was actually thinking about getting an s14 for my next car until my freind let me drive his. Yea its smooth ect, but theres something about the 13. Now when I get older, I may want something a little nicer, but then I'll just get a new car like a z or something. But to each his own. I would recomend test driving both, in the same form (stock or simalarly modified) and then deciding.

I tried really hard not to say anything on this, but I can't help it. There were 2 phases for S14 in 1995. The first phase didn't have the following available: Abs, VLSD. They were available on the 2nd version of the 1995 model. The first ones were also OBDI because OBDII had not become a standard yet until earlier in 1995. Mine was built in 1994 before OBDII had taken over. If you check your build date you can find out the info you need.

OBDI was the only reason I picked up a 95 and did kouki from there. Any help with smog just makes things easier in my book. Besides I got a good deal for it.

I've had S13 Coupe, S13 Hatch, S14 Zenki, and S14 Kouki.

In order of preference.

S14 Kouki
S13 Coupe (only with silvia front end)
S14 Zenki (ehh)
S13 Hatch (kept for 3 days, just don't like the hatchbacks)

You will see people not agree with me and that's my point, everyone likes what they like. Just be sure you like what you like because you like it, not because it's trendy or a fanboy fad.

Either way it's a reliable car.

PS The S14 is the best of all worlds, unless you plan on trashing it. You can pick up a date, auto x, track, mod, drive long trips, more comfortable, and looks more mature.

Just my thoughts. I don't want to hear your flaming.

You can drive my 98 kouki s14 with a built rb26,pt6776hps..I think mine will make your mind up..lol jk. The s13 is a good car but I hate the pop up head lights like a fiero, and the front end, and tail lights, and the hatch. If you get a s13 get a coupe and do a widebody kit on it cause they do look mean with the silvia front end and widebody. If its a track car then you wont have any trouble finding parts for the s14 since 90% of them are all aftermarket anyway.I like the s13 coupe but I love the s14 and thats what I prefer.

I know when I started looking at 240's, I only looked at S14's. Now this was due to a couple of things that may not apply to you: It was not acceptable to have a car from the early 90's (don't ask why, just roll with it) and I didn't like how S13's looked/smelled compared to the 14. I wanted a DD that was FR and a stable platform for modifications.

Before I knew anything about 240's and only got fleeting looks at them in traffic, I was like "oh man how can you want anything but a Kouki? They are so much more intense than the Zenkis". But when I started looking at actually buying an S14, I realized that it was highly unlikely I would be able to find a Kouki for the money/time I had to look, so I got used to the fact that I would NOT have a Kouki. My roommates brother had a Zenki that was his DD but was still for sale and for MONTHS we joked about it being "my car"; since we were waiting on my previous car to sell. I was looking at everything Zenki, and the design really grew on me. My car sold and I ended up getting a Kouki. I remember that I felt like I was looking at the front end for the first time, I literally had a full Zenki mindset. So I went from Kouki-Zenki-Kouki. It's all gravy though.

I also remember after I got my Kouki it took me an entire month to see another one on the road. May have been a fluke though. At school I have the only one for miles, although technically not since my roommate also has a 97, though it is currently an S14.5.

EXCELLENT point by whoever said that people will disagree and that's the point. Definitely true here too. No two people have the same background/goals/money etc so you can't expect everyone (if ANYONE) to agree with you. I know the OP has said his mind is made up, but this is a very interesting topic so I figured I'd chime in.
