View Full Version : SAFC 2 SR20DET settings...HELP!!!

okay guys, i don't want to hear anything about how crappy the SAFC is, how worthless it is, how i NEED a wide band, blah blah, i got it, it came with the car, so now i want to tweak it, or at least get it right.... oh, and i have searched and there's really not much on this, at least in depth of what i need...

so i have the SAFC,and no wide band, I'm not really seeking to tune with it, just to get a base settings that maybe someone else has...

my current fuel/air etc set up on the car is..

Stock MAF
Stock 370cc injectors
APEXi super intake filter/elbow
FMIC
Walboro 255
APEXi 3" full exhaust (not sure if that matters or not)

the question is, what would/do you guys have set with similar mods... i have an issue of when i hold it over a certain RPM it gets really rich, bogs down, and smokes out the back a bit... like say i hold it at around 4500rpm it shudders.... i know what ya might be thinking "check your MAF!!" but i know it works fine so I'm sure it's something to do with the fuel curves set on the SAFC..

i could just disconnect it, but i like the feature on monitor mode that shows RPM, voltage, throttle %, and AFL % (which strangely, i think, enough, drops below 2.0% under load/mashed gas pedal)... I'd like to maintain the monitor features, without having to worry bout running lean, rich, and blowing up my investment...

as a side note, I'm completely new to "tuning" and what all the "NE", "DEC" stuff means, so take it easy on me... what I'm really hoping for it for someone to post all their settings for me to enter into mine..

so if any of you guys, in your infinite knowledge can give me a hand, it would be greatly appreciated

is it an apexi safc because if it is i have the jdm manual and im shure that all apexi safc's use the same tuning sheet, i could take a pic and post it up if your interested...

to my knowledge the diffrence between SAFC 1 and 2 is that safc 1 has only 8 points to tune throughout the rpm range and safc 2 has 16 ...

although i could be wrong , never had SAFC , im going power fc over anything

From what I understand if you reinitialize it, then set up the map sensors to the correct settings, then the car is set to stock settings... As far as tuning it, find a local shop and they will dyno it for cheap. Take an hour of dyno time and at a cheap local shop it isnt that much to "protect your investment"... They are simple and quick, some shops will road tune it for even cheaper but I say sniff the exhaust and dyno it, see where your at... As far as setting up the in and out sensors, there are a handfull of different ones I have seen. Everything from 1in 5out, 1in 6out, 2in 5out, 2in 6out, 5in 5out, 5in 6out, 6in 5out, 6in 6out... I have a sr20 running Z32 maf and I had to set mine up to 1in 7out... You will know when it is set right and when it isnt just by the idle and if your car stays running. I tried all those settings and my car only ran on 1in7out... The apexi manual posts some of the same settings and comes with additional settings for types of mafs you are running but mine didnt match any of those...

if you still need help , shoot me forty bones over paypal and I will write up a correction map for suggestion you can use to input on the SAFC as well as give you all the correct settings to input so it will run right...assuming its the settings and not something else wrong.

Make sure all the wiring is done right. The biggest thing I dont like about the SAFC is the fact you have to hack the shit out of your stock wiring harness to install it. Make sure it's installed correctly

hotwire 6 in 6 out calib 1 to 1 assuming the stock maf you said you were using is the stock s13 red/black top sr20det and s13

5 in 5 out if you're using an s14 sr20 maf and ecm.

your NE points are your rpm range tuning increments, safc's are the easiest thing to tune, therefore since you don't know what you're doing right now, humble yourself and let your local tuner do it for $100-250 or whatever he charges for this first time, watch, learn, and ask questions. then when you upgrade your turbo and injectors you can pay for some dynotime and do it yourself once you get the basics

even though you're on the stock motor with stock everything else, if you adjust the safc wrong you can still damage your engine and it'll totally be YOUR fault for being stubborn.

best of luck to you

Dave

The SAFC IS easy to tune but it's also really finicky and touchy on range of adjustment.

Usually you get close to narrowing in on a target AFR and then you adjust a tiny bit more and it's all over the place again. It's rang of adjustment is usually really fine once you find a range where you actually see the AFRs being affected by the damn thing .... blah pfc eek

just putting this out. so it can be a good reference. to show how to set up sensor for s14 sr20det. Just read the image. it clearly settles how to dial in with certain MAF's. and helps settle old asked questions...cheers

I made these corrections the other day. and noticed a very smoother idles. the AFR stayed consistent thru the stoich gauge. and the backfires weren't as loud and often.

since I have stock inj and stock maf from the s14 sr20det you see above manual pic.

I run the throttle. Lo 10% and Hi 50%

my apexi boost control is at 1.25kg/cm2 of boost or in simple math 12psi 1000-7000K rpms

and my duty cycle for stock injectors is set to 35%

These are my number for a stock motor running stock Turbo, FMIC, turbo manifold headers and 3"straight with cat and performance exhaust.

That's it.

Absolutely not, 1kg/cm² = 1bar (approx). 1.25kg/cm² is around 18psi.

I wouldn't take miggy's word on this one for some reason

yeah, dude 1.25kg/cm2 is 17.7psi
I run a low boost od 1.2kg/cm2 which is 17.0 blobbity blah psi

There is now way you'd be at 35% duty at full boost, and if you mean at idle, you have problems. I don't think you really understand what's going on.

Maybe you mean the boost controller gain or ratio is 35%?
I'm confused, but if you never push this car you'll probably be ok!

Sorry. And huge mistake. My phone converter gave me these number.
I googled the numbers. And you guys are right.

I changed it to 0.80kg/cm2=10-11psi.
I was told my duty cycle at 35% was ok.
If not then what? ???

Wow. You can even add the years. Hey man. I'm just looking for info. And I'm actually trying to follow rules on not posting the same questions. Seems you know it all. Gees....

People gotta be so smart about everything being posted. Or asked. Damn. If you don't like it. Don't reply homie.

Dude, chill... It was an observation... not directed at anyone in particular. I only posted because someone actually searched without starting a redundat thread. No need to be disrespectful- Save that for the trolls.
