View Full Version : koukis with high mileage?

what are the cons of buying a kouki with lets say 160k on chassis? Like why exactly do people prefer or are willing to pay more for cars with lower mileage as opposed to 100k+? I plan to build a really sexyass kouki, but doesnt 160k+ devalue the car, so when im reselling people might want the price decreased? yet i still built ka-ts, with 220k going for 10-12grand

If you are building a really sexy car, why do you care about resale value?

sncs14

I would never buy something that decreases in value with resale in mind.

More miles equals more use/abuse, which equals less value in most cases.

Your asking why mileage decreases the value of a car?

Would you rather have sex with a girl who has fucked 5 guys or 50?

Agreed. Stupid question. It's not like a 97-98 240SX is different than any other car, mileage and age decrease resale value, period. The only reason these cars are selling for anything is because of bandwagoneers like you who want one. A clean, low mileage 5spd SE shouldn't be worth any more than $4k based on the car itself, but some kid who jerks off to import magazines will gladly pay twice that. In five years when the next fad hits these things won't be worth a dime, just like any 20 yr old car will be. If you're buying one now to 'make sexy' in hopes of making your money back down the road, you're an idiot.

240z's are still cheap.

Why is everyone acting like 240's are going extinct.

There were 251,410 produced.

Just because a few people total a car doesn't mean that it's some gift that is going away.

when buying a car, mileage on chasis should not be the only factor.

Would you buy a 10k chasis with rust every where or a mint condition car with 100k?

240sx and resale? Are you timing this around f&f 4 5 or 6?

miracosta

lazysk8er2
02-06-2009, 01:29 PM
like everyone else explained its about demand...the car is hot right now and everyone wants one especially enthusiasts who would spend 7k on a 150k car that is in amazing condition...my e30 has 200k and increasing rapidly on my long commutes and i get people all the time asking to buy it cuz its in great shape.

Well, considering these cars are now way pass their twilight years in production (last S14 sold in the states is over 10 yrs old at this point), how many low mileage Kouki's do you find? Mind, theyre already expensive to begin with due to not having enough of them, demand for 97-98 chassis have always been high. People have been known to pay over $10k for pristine, low mileage Kouki S14 at one point.

Personally, I dont care about mileage. Why? Cuz im not keeping the KA, nor do I plan on going KA-T. So what if the chassis or engine got over 200k miles on it, I just want a decent body thats not neglected too much and mutilated. Engine, suspension, most of the stuff that usually goes bad with mileage and time will be upgraded/replaced with better stuff. Body wise, as long as it doesnt have crazy amount of dents, I can live with peeling clear coat.

id been lookin at the overall condition of the car before mileage. when buying a older car i would look for oil leaks and see if the oil cap has any sludge on it letting you know if the owner kept up the maintenance on it. also rust would be a big issue for an older car.

mkiv98
02-08-2009, 06:22 PM

im just asking because im buying a kouki with 166k on chassis......at 6.5 with an alarm and sub......shit is overpriced for AN automatic
i plan to keep it till im done with college as im going to japan right after i get my degree.

I really dont like the price for a car with that many high miles...........if it had 100k on chassis i wouldnt care.......
I mean my plans are just maintaning the car and keeping it CLEAN like a virgin pussy. but at the same time if i were to resell it, no one would want to buy a car with 200k+right?

Im just asking to u guys personally if this is too high of mileage to buy it at 6.5........i mean i would buy it for 6 but seller is not budging............

sounds exactly like when i bought my kouki.

and if you're really concerned with resale value, and using your car as an investment, you probably should leave the car completely stock because you won't make your money back on the mods. or i suppose you could keep your stock parts and swap em back over when it's time to sell.

Om1kron
02-09-2009, 11:47 AM
it honestly does not matter how many miles are on the car if you plan on rebuilding it or swapping the motor...

depending on the previous owner and it's driving conditions will determine rust, body damage, shit to be replaced like seals, fuses, wiper amps, tires, wheel bearings, wheel stud's, shocks, etc.

when people in general buy a car they worry about these things. If you're buying a 240 to be the next DK.

milage doesn't even fucking matter.

My odometer doesn't even work, drive the car for 3 weeks check the oil change it and go on with life.

I'm not spawn, my life is not limited by numbers and nor is my cars. I replace what is necessary and add what isn't necessary.

Not really just keep checking the fourms and craigs-list. But when searching craigs-list make sure to check your surrounding areas and make sure to search things other than 240sx. When searching try 200sx, 180sx. s14, s13, Kouki, Zenki and other random things people list cars under. People are dumb and don't know there cars very well and will post them under different names.

little tip:

There are a few things that dont fly here, racism is one of those things- even if it isnt meant to be taken that way.

But, otherwise, I say wait. Deals will come and when they do you would kick yourself in the ass for not waiting and being stuck with something you dont want after a month.

Plus the other thing is location...Cali prices is always ridiculous. More people looking for these cars out there than anywhere else (Supply & Demand). You go to the Midwest or East Coast, there a bit less people looking for these cars compared to the West Coast. You get your ass to FL, you have a higher chance of finding a low mileage Kouki out there thats driven by a 45 yr old lady.

Both of those cars were bargain Kouki's. The one was from a kid who was going to college and was insanely broke, I'm the third owner. The second one was from a pothead who had no idea what an S14 was. Crackhead tint, crappy "system", interior had ashes EVERYWHERE, even under stuff that you would have to pull panels off to get to.

Like someone else said it's all about the waiting. I didn't have the luxury of that, there reason I own a Kouki is because the guy selling the Zenki I was looking at was in a movie. I HAD to get a car to go to work.
