Why do some of you newbies refer to your 240sx as a silvia? its a simple question really... when i first started looking for a new car i wanted a "240sx" and i always called it a "240sx"... so.. is it this JDM craze? or super street?... im just woundering where you got the term silvia for your "240sx"...

it's pretty much the same chassis u mean.
180sx's came with completely different engines! CA18DETs and SR20DETs.... seeing as the 240 has a n/a KA24DE, I'd say that in itself makes it a different car. 180's also had different brakes and are ALL RHD... yeah, so other than everything under the hood, the steering setup and stopping, sure... they're exactly alike

edit: I almost forgot to mention s14's! You call those 180's too? No, of course not... silly me, i'm sure you call them Silvias.

no wait... sYlvia... yeah

I call my car an RPS13. Because that's what it is. I dont call it 180sx, sometimes when talking about the Hatchback/fastback style, saying 180 style is a LOT easier. but for the most part: 240sx or RPS13... toss up.

And so you nOObs don't go around getting flamed fro calling your 89 240sx RS13 an RPS13:

R: fastback
P: SR20DE(T)
S: chassis
13: model

Oh sorry to offend you, Mr. technical. I know all your facts are valid, but, keep in mind, that is it only a name. I do not think it matters wtf you call it. :)

I call it my car. I usually refer to them the same as if they were jp or american. 180, s13, s14, MCS14. I am aware of the differences Yoshi called out, and they are all valid. It comes down to a fact of lazyness. 1990 Nissan 240SX Fastback, just takes too long. I am refering more toward the body.

Mine is refrered to as that PIECE OF **** in the garage!!:p I am mad at it at this moment.

Just thought of a question...... Since I put an sr in my USDM 240sx hatch would RPS13 be correct name to give it? I dont called it by this code, cause I do refer to it as stated above. If not correct code what would it be?

I call it "the nissan" or "s13" or "240" or "the red one," when I do the silvia front end to it. I will call it "silvia" It is like a sex change, Rufus just isn't the same afterwards, maybe he wants to be called Sally now. Don't stop him.

I call my this to the ricers.

"My car is a 180sx, with a left hand drive conversion, and a open differental, and I decided to be crazy and put in a 91 Nissan Truck engine." Some laff, and some are like "WHAO REALLY!!"

wait your sn says sr240det? what the hell is that? to many that would be consiered something a noewbie or ricer would have for their sn. and yes we dont have silvias(mostof us) and no matter what they will alwyays be a 240.

i refer to my old S13 fastback as the "silvia" and my S14 as the 240.

i no longer care what people call their car. It could be a Sylvia if they want. Or S1345 super sylvia champion conversion.

I call the cars by their chassis codes... it's simpler than saying the year and model...

My 1986.5 Toyota Corolla sedan is my AE82 (soon to be an AE82 GTZ after the 4agze swap is completed...)

My 1993 Nissan Sentra is a B13...

My (soon - as soon as I get to a-school) 240SX fastback wil be referred to as an S13 fastback...

However, as stated previously, when conversing with a "doodoo head" the cars are referred to by their model name, not chassis code...

I wasn't offended by any means... it's just beyond my comprehension why some people have this infatuation with calling it something other than the name Nissan gave it... I mean if you have a Ford Tarus, do you go around calling it a Sable? (okay, so that's not the best analogy cuz they actually are the same car, but the principal is close enough).

Is it the JDM-envy craze? I just don't get it.
It says 240sx on it. In several places even! s13, s14... chassis code, that's cool, but why do people insist on calling their car a 180sx or silvia or even a 200sx? Are you that unhappy with whatever stigma accompanies "240sx" in your head?

It's not that I'm offended.
It's not that there's sand in my vagina (today anyways).
I just don't get why people aren't happy with the given name... I'm proud as hell to say I own a 240sx...
Why else would I have 2 of them?

i refer to my car as the piece of $hit with at huge F*ing dent in it... hahaha
no really i normally call it my coupe.. or my s13... i'm still debating on puting an s13 silvia front end on it, b/c i can get it really cheap from a relative.----but if i do it wont be a silvia...i'll still cvall it my s13 coupe (with a silvia front end)
the only way i'd refer to my car as a silvia is if it had amd JDM parts, an sr20 in the engine bay, and the silvia front end,---then i might call it my USDM silvia.. but i woudl never do that to my beautiful USDM 240sx coupe

I call it 240sx, or just 240. those who call it silvia are probably the people who are planning on swapping a sr20det even before they get the 240sx.

I agree (see what happens when you get the "Zilvia Member" status)

I have never and never will call my car a 180sx, Silvia, Gazelle, or sUPa DoR1ftO MacHinE. It was a 240sx when I bought it and it will always be a 240sx....even w/ the SR!
Ex: If I put a LT1 in it would it be a TransAM, Z28, or Corvette. No! It would be a ::drumroll please:: a 240sx

It's just way too many people getting caugt up in the JDM yO! Phase and wanting something they don't have (the grass is always greener)

Personally I could give a fu*k what people call it. If someone wants to call it a silvia then go right ahead. I don't care. S13? Sure. RPS13? Why not. S14, kouki, zenki, MCS14, whatever floats your boat. The guys in Japan swap their Silvia, Soarer, Laurel, Aristo, and Altezza badges for the US badges. Those damn Japanese Ricers thinking their car is something they're not, after all, their cars are RHD and all that (sarcasm in case you didn't notice.)

I would not be suprised to find this thread locked the next time I visit this section.

I thought the US 240SX FB was technically an RMS13? M=KA24DE. KA24E FB is an RHS13.... I think .

Yeah but RS13 covers ALL hatchbacks. It was just a generalization. So regardless of a KA-DE or -E, RS13 was just all inclusive. i guess i shouldn't have said a year in my statement. That would have made more sense. Or I could have just said RHS13. I will next time!;) :D

if it has the SR swap (and if S13 chassis, has the JDM front-end conversion), i'll call it a "Silvia" because it has been converted to Silvia specification sans RHD. essentially what Nissan sent over here in the first place. also because "Silvia" or "S13" is quicker to say than "240SX Coupe" :D

still saving up for my S13 coupe-to-be-SR-swapped... won't call it "Silvia" until I get the nose...

screw it, i'm just going to call it "car" and be done with it :D

i call my car a 240 or a s14 if the person im talking to knows anything about the 240.

i think this question goes along with the "why do ppl put silvia badges on thier car" thread... its the same thing, instead of using symbols its using words.

Jsquared
03-01-2003, 12:40 AM
no badges going onto my car... in fact most are probably coming off :D although the "lightning bolt" S15 badge looks so freaking cool to have on the nose where the nissan badge was, but i'm still trying to decide if that's too ricey (it'd be post-SR, of course, got to make it go before i make it look better)

I personally think that it is personal preference. I guess to some people saying yeah I got a Silvia from Japan, sounds more cool than yeah I got a 240sx. Too most people and I do apologize for this the 240sx is often just considered a glorified civic.(They obviously dont know better)
