ok i know there are some of you guys out there who are still living with your parents and drive around in a 240. i am one of them. the thing that is killing me is the insurance. ive had my license for a year now and paying up the @$$ for insurance (around 1300 a year) for only ONE WAY insurance. im currently registered under my parents policy. hypothetically speaking cant i just take my name off their policy...have the car completely just registered to say my dad and w/complete coverage....and say drive it around on occasion and still be covered and at the same time save a crapload of money?

I've had my liscence for three years, I have a clean record, and I pay $1300 a year too with State Farm. I think its a great deal. That's even with two discounts. The car is under my name as well. I'm not sure how to go about getting off of their plan, but you will still probably be paying the same even on your own insurance plan. All teenagers get raped by insurance too. It's just a fact because we are stereotyped as dangerous drivers. I'd stick with what you have going right now, I know some guys with 240s that pay upwards of $2500 a year.

You're lucky... on my B13 Sentra (1993) I pay $2000/year... but on the flipside I'm only 18, the car is registered in my name, the policy is in my name, and so is the loan for the car, and I don't live with my parents - I have my own APARTMENT which makes my insurance $15/mo more expensive.
Be happy with what you have, 'cause driving only part-time would suck...

heh...well SOONER or later im going to get a 240, and i contacted my inssurance company, and the prices are pretty high. At one point i was thinking about goign with a motorcycle and then get a car to go with that, which overall from what I heard might be cheaper if you play your cards right...but these days car inssurance prices are skyrocketing

we have 5 cars and they're all registered in my parents name, so they are insured under them as well. thats how my family does it and we've got full-coverage on every car with a $100 deductible. with state farm they made us have a different car under each person since there were 4 cars and 4 drivers, although they were all registered under my parents. under nationwide they let my parents have all of the cars insured under their names and we've had no problems. i've always technically been a secondary driver for my 240 (4 years) and after 4-5 claims i've never really had problems. btw i am 20 and do not live at home either...
state farm and nationwide are great insurance companies, they might not be the cheapest but they'll take care of you

I just got my insurance today for my "new" '89 240sx.
Previously I was paying $850/yr on my MR2 Spyder.
Now I'm paying $883/yr for BOTH cars. Full Coverage, $500 deductible. :D
Those are the benefits of being older and having a 10+ yr clean driving record.

Sure, if you want to get screwed.
Geico might be good if you're 40 years old, married, and drive a Camry.
If you're 18 and you drive a 240SX they will rape you. If they find out your car is modified they'll just plain DROP you. Seriously. No insurance company is all that friendly to young men in sports coupes, but Geico is one of the worst.
