View Full Version : Exhaust Leak, Boost Leak, Or Something Else?

Driving home from applying at a job today I noticed something strange. I know for a fact i have an exhaust leak. Ive been able to hear it for some time now. Never thought anything of it, seeing as the car drove fine.

When on my way home, i was merging onto US-30 in York. Upon doing so i gave the car roughly 80% throttle and she wouldnt go. I mean she goes, but not like normal. After getting off the highway i gave it at least 80% throttle in every gear and noticed that according to my boost gauge, im not making ANY BOOST. In fact the gauge doesnt even it 0....im stopping at approximately 2-1 in/hg.

So my question: Is my exhaust leak at the point im leaking so bad im not spinning the turbine enough to make boost? Or am I leaking boost? Or maybe sometihng else.

IIRC if there was a boost leak the car wouldnt go at all? Since the air trying to reach the engine cant get there. Exhaust leak seems to me to be the answer, but before i take my car off the road and start replacing all the gaskets, I would like for someone to give me their 2cents on the topic.

Thanks guys i appreciate it

Ryan

Probably blew out the gasket between the manifold and the turbo.

I agree with S14DB. I've read that if the manifold to turbo gasket is blown, you wont build boost.

I'm having a similar problem, but I can build boost (although not well AT ALL haha). I think I might have blown the one between the turbo and the elbow.

Let me know if you end up replacing the gasket and the problem goes away. I'll be replacing mine too, but I'm waiting for the 5-hole gasket from Nissan haha. I hope this fixes it for both of us!

i wont be getting around to fixing it until this weekend at least. Its cold as **** here and i dont have a garage to work in. I'll probably end up replacing all my gaskets since i have all the exhaust gaskets one could ever need
