so this the deal, i picked up an s13 hatch in lancaster, the car was rolling, but just. the car had no motor or trans, or drive shaft. but..... i got 2 sohc motors , a good friend gave me the 5 sp tranny. and i got it all for SUPER CHEAP!!!:fawk2::fawk2:
What better way to know your car than just build it, here are some pics

since i got the car, i was wondering what color and how i was going to paint it,
and i decided that the car is not worth painting profesionally, and i wanted my paint budget to be.... lets say 70 bucks, should be plenty.
ive seen some nice paint threads on zilvia, but even those seem way to labor intensive and way over budget!!:nono::nono::nono::nono:
im talkin about rustoleum bitches!!! newspaper,,, and some tape!!:mephfawk:
THIS IS FOR ALL THE CHEAP MOFOS OUT THERE, TIME TO SOMETHING THAT WILL GET THE JOB DONE SON!!!
i just happen to have a piant gun ( a whatever taiwan gun) and a small decent compressor, nothing fancy.
went to osh and picked up some supplies,
http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo358/gallardoman/IMG_0068.jpg
spent 40 bucks, still under budget, dope:ssex:
well,.. thats it for the mean time, the rain is coming and that going to put thing on hold, maybe ill get shit smoged,.... ilegally !!!:gives::gives:
feel free to ask anything, also here to take advice,
BTW, you want to see it when its almost done,.. not to spoil it... all i have say is RALLY 240SX, its gonna be sick:tweak::tweak::tweak::tweak:

that would be a great idea, but that would be too much work, plus the money spent for matieral and rent-welder, might as well buy some over fenders.
im trying to keep the project under K.I.S.S guidlines:):)

He's not talking about mechanical timing (the cams/valves in relation to the pistons) he's talking about ignition timing. Download an FSM if you haven't already.
Not much of a build thread - but I assume you'll be adding more, so I guess keep it up?
These beat-to-shit ugly cars, and the fact that they account for the majority of 240sx ownership in America, make me sad.

Haha. You're saying my "primer black s14" looks the same as your car?
... not quite. I'm more into racing than the streetfighter look, but at least yours look clean.
New tail section on an old bike helps a bit, but using regular car batteries is really not the way to go for range/lb... definitely cool though. Love to hear what drive and controller you're using, and what the budget was (after the bike, of course).

those are six deep cycle rv/marine energizers, sevcon powerpak controller, sepex motor, about 50 mile range, lil over 3000 for everything, even bike.
wiating for price drop in lithium, lil overwieght st the moment, but once i could afford those LI FE P04, INSTANT wieght reduction of 200lbs.:faint:

you know..........................
my car once looked like this, stripped and primered, all that jazz.
i think i was telling kevin the other day that the difference between a successful project and a shitty one isnt so much in the cost of the project, its in the planning.
seriously, a few screws here, a fuel filler door, reverse light gaskets... like if you actually take the time to do the job RIGHT, use the right materials, you'de actually get a pretty decent job.
INSTEAD, you chose to leave OE pinstriping tape, reverse light foam gaskets which literally ALL peel off... and for what? you're doing near the same amount of work and getting shitty results because you're painting in front of your house in the open yard. im sure the shit is illegal, and its low class, and in the end you get nothing but a shitty results with home depo primer.
i dont even know what to say. keep up the good work and lets see how pretty this is when its all done. good luck... seriously, good luck.

hmm. lol i cant stand that gloss primer color. I have seen a few stock cars that color it it throws me off, shiny primer. ewww. And yea your halfassing some stuff, but that whats makes professionals just that, and you a guy in your yard. SO keep it up!
And yea its illegal. Letting VOC's just fly around a nieghborhood without filtering is something the EPA would frown upon. But i have seen some very good paint jobs from a yard. You just gatta have the right day. A hot day right after a rain is a good one. Low pollen and dust and just sand out the imperfections, even booths have shit flying around in them.

I kinda like the gloss primer color. If you made this a sweet track car I'd vinyl or airbrush it to look like a fighter jet.
It'd be kinda cool

rusteloum is not a good base for paint later on...... idk why u would say that? completely arnt the same company or product. Never mix and match paints/ products unless u have enough experience to know what works. For those who want to save money. Like the op, use a single stage uranthane paint. Let it cure, prep it with 600-100 grit and lay at least 1-2 wet coats of hs clear and your good. Benifits, you get the shine and gloss of a 2 stage and the durability of a single stage paints against uv damage and oxidation. Oh yeah, it is illegal to spray outside. Idk what ur laws says but here in my county in norcal, your only allowed to spray 9sqft of paint outside or else u need a epa approved booth.

ok
lets do this shit.....
let me say that i agree with most of you about the glossy primer, its ok but it looks too weird,
i wanted something darker, so i picked up some more rustoleom paint, here are the results
first coat,

some shit was in paint or something, cuz there was alot of dust after it dryed , felt rough in some areas, got some 400 grit sand paper-got to work.
second coat was much better, all was good, on goes the third- here ya go

Agreed. If you're going through all the work, I'd at least get some real paint to spray on there. It's not that expensive.
That being said. What are your plans for this thing? Like....other than paint? What's next on the agenda?

I'm really glad you're saving it if that is in fact true, and although I appreciate your care for the 240sx, you could use a bit more edumacating.
Good points in this thread made by ixfxi and silpena. Enamel isn't a good base for a laquer coat at all, go ahead try it. Enough said. Have fun sanding it off. It will work when its dry, not great and it might fuck up the clear coat hue, but try it when its flashed.
I was really hoping you'd have at least bought the duplicolor cans instead but no... WHY GOD WHY.
Even with 1 coat of rustoleum thinned down, I won't be able to sleep tonight. There must be like 2mm of paint on this car by now so I'll give it a year before you get cracks. Might wanna prepare for some kind of cement floor w cracks in it airbrush job lol.
Sorry dude I don't mean to knock you but yeah, should have done a bit more research and remember, when painting, the more you take off (parts insulation etc) the better it will turn out.

thankyou for your concern, not into this nissan thing anymore.
going to university so im done slanging for petty money.
for ex. i wanted 60 bucks for the back seats-which are flawless- only one pm offer for 25 bucks! that point i knew this is not what i want to deal with anymore.
moving on to bigger and better things.
