Just got a Dif fan controller to replace the crappy rad probe unit I have. After searching it seems a lot of problems occur with poor wiring connections to the stock 2 wire temp sensor.
Was wondering, has anybody used a stock KA24 SOHC metal radiator hose connector with the attached 2 wire sensor as the temp trigger for the DiF?
Couple questions, to do this would it be best to place the connector/sensor in the lower radiator hose as stock on the SOHC, or put it in the upper hose?
Also, not having a wiring diag. for the SOHC, which wire on the stock sensor is +/-, if it makes any difference.
Set up; SR20DE soon to go T, '93 hatch, Altima fans on stock rad.

if you use a razor blade and cut the plastic sheath from around the wire then use the clips to make sure they have a good connection then you should not have any trouble at all.

I had thought about that, or even attempting a soldered connection. If I screwed up, ie cut some of the wire strands, I didn't want want to have to worry about a messed up signal to the ECU and driveability problems.

i used the provided wire splicers that came with the kit. I have been running this setup for about 7 months and I haven't had a problem yet. I did a bunch of research before I installed the dif and the #1 problem was the wiring of the 12v source. people had reported problems when the 12v source was spliced into the batter cable when people had moved the battery to the trunk. So I ran a 10 gauge wire from the trunk and soldered it to the diff so it has its own 12v source

Glad you did that homework slow92 as I plan on using an Optima trunk mount. I had planned on using the OEM setup for the BMW 325 series which uses a trunk mounted battery stock. The primary cable from this is huge and there is a smaller cable that runs along with it. I was thinking of using the DiF fan control wires to power a 30 amp relay just to play safe.

I am not sure this sensor could be used. I don't know anyone who has done this. I don't even know what the resistance range is for this sensor.

Ideally temp probes should be in the water passage in the head. Otherwise it should be in the hose carrying coolant from the block. If you measure temp in the other hose it may not be accurate because coolant in that hose has already been cooled by the rad.

I have a SOHC FSM and I'm not sure either. The FSM doesn't say. Maybe I'll recheck for you again.

Thanks for the help. I know there are some after market hose adapter/sensor setups. They usually market these as giving a better idea of the actual water temp. without any influence of heat from the head etc. If that really makes any difference.
I was thinking the stock SOHC sensor can't be that different from the DOHC or SR20 sensor as far as being used by the DiF controller.
I was just looking for an "easier" dead reliable hookup after nearly cooking my engine with the probe type controller.
