There's a lot of factors that can determine the avg cost of a 5-speed swap.

Are you looking for new/used?

OEM/Aftermarket?

My 5-speed swap was around $1,300, and yes, doing it myself.

A junkyard run 5-speed swap with all used parts can run you about $200(if you're lucky to even find such a thing).

Full 5-speed swaps on here usually go for around $400.

Yep. Go for it dude. My swap ended up costing me right around $600 , but I used some new parts where necessary.

The only real pain in the ass is the fact that you can't really tell what condition the tranny is in untill you actually bolt everything up and drive it. I mean, you can make sure it atleast goes into gear with it out of the car, but you won't really be able to tell if it grinds, or pops out of gear untill you get it in. And if it is a bad tranny, then you have to take the hole bitch out again.

his was probably more because he bought mostly new parts, a nice clutch, a good transmission etc
and if he's on a SR a single plate clutch runs 1k at least off the bat.

average would be in the 400 range if u do the labor yourself too
transmission runs about 100-150 bucks, maybe get a used clutch for like 50-100 bucks
pedal and stuff is maybe 20
cut the brake one. clutch master is like 50 new
clutch line (ss) is about 25
fluid

cant think of much else.
neverhad to do one. bought my car 'right' the first time.

I decided to do it right the first time since I don't like to do things over and over again.

I went with:

90k mile tranny - $175
Exedy Stg 2 clutch
Fidanza flywheel - $700 combined
B&M short shifter - $150
Nismo Tranny mount - $50
New OEM clutch master/slave - $115
Driveshaft/tranny crossmember - $60
Stainless steel braided clutch line - $30
Royal Purple gear oil x 3 quarts - $30

If I would have gone with all OEM parts(brand new), it would have been less than half.

How bout you buy the car, learn how to drive it, find out what other repairs are needed before you budget in a 5 speed swap.

Yes I would buy the car regardless

But please dont be a ricer

mrchamploo5

yeah only reason why im hesitating is because if u compare it to kbb its 2 grand over excellent price...but yes i know, CA drift tax. trust me i wont be a ricer, my goal is to make it a clean jdm s14 kouki, maybe ka-t due to socal pigs.

my drug mind is saying get this car immediately, its got my fav color, CLEAN as hell(good as i detail cars for BMW so i can keep it cleaner),kouki, with plans of jdm front bumper, silvia grill, emblem, and kouki wing. my sober follow the law mind is saying this shits overpriced, its an auto, ask zilvia.net lol

umm;

I got my 95 base, rusty zenki AT,green, with signs of most of the car being made out of bondo, for about 5 stacks. I dont think the kid did 1 oil/fluid change for the whole 2 years he owned it.

Took me 4 years to find it too!

It was between that, or a riced out stock stripped 97 kouki in black, w/a twisted frame for about 11k

These cars are getting rare as shit in the midwest.

hell yeah.... plus a Celica GT is nothing to rave about.... pretty slow, FWD, pretty cramped inside..... its a chick car.... a kouki with high mileage is still a kouki and 6K isnt too bad. I bought my 95 SE for about 6500 from a dealer, but then again that was in 2004 and it had 98K, a one owner car, and SE model with leather, abs, VLSD, 5spd, sunroof, all the goodies, so I guess being it was a newer car then and it was a dealer I guess my price wasn't too bad.

Or if you really want to find a cheaper model, buy a 95/96 5spd with less miles and convert the front since you plan on swapping over a JDM bumper, grille, etc and those have to be painted regardless. I dunno its all up to you and what you plan to do with the car. Sure a 5spd swap isnt too pricey if you find all the right parts, I was gonna 5spd swap my daily driver S13 til I found a 5spd for half the price of a swap lol $300 bucks. So I bought another S13 and now I have 2 S13s lol. One that was auto and one that is 5psd.

But part wise it ran me about $400 for all the S13 5spd parts,

5spd trans with trans mount (hardware aka bolts) ~ 150
Driveshaft 5spd non abs ~ 50
Transmission plate~ 25
Junkyard clutch pedal assembly ~ 25
Slave cylinder ~ 20
Clutch Master ~ 30
OEM Nissan clutch hard line ~ 15
OEM Nissan throw out bearing ~ 30
6 OEM flywheel bolts ~ 30
Stainless steel clutch line from SPL ~ 25
Speedbleeder from SPL ~ 10
Pilot bushing ~ 5
Flywheel - free from my S14 (upgraded to fidanza)
Clutch - free from other car.

If its really clean, no rust, good running motor and has a clean car fax then its not that bad, out here in Chicago aka Midwest you can barely find cheap 240s unless they are rusted out or beat to shit, the clean ones are usually already being modded or aren't for sale unless its a ridiculous price.

damn, u lucked out....lucky, yeah i figure a kouki conversion would run me up at least a grand minus paint, so i dont think imma do that even though it was tempting.... was talking with my friend who owns a z28, and he says that swaps arent good as factory 5speeds, is this true? or is he talking out of his ass?

Rubbish.

If anything, a converted 5speed is better. It's harder to beat on an automatic car.

Your friend is correct by saying a 5speed swap isnt as good if they dont swap the ECU.

Rubbish.

If anything, a converted 5speed is better. It's harder to beat on an automatic car.

The only thing different on a swapped auto to 5speed s14 is the suspension springs' thickness.

i need to 5 spd swap my shell when i drop the sr in. i already have most of the pieces (pedals, lines etc) form my other s13 but i picked up a ka trans that doesnt grind for 30, exedy clutch for under 200 iirc, ss clutch line for 18 and a nismo flywheel for 80. i still have to get a new slave cylinder but thats about it.
