Yes I'm a starving college student.
Yes I take the money my parents give me for food and spend it on car parts instead hahaha

Rice is like nothing. $5 for a huge 5lb bag, tops.
I cook it all the time. Sometimes, when I'm feeling extra special adventerous, I cut up the hot dogs and put them in the rice. Mmmmmm.....

I heard about this, they bumped the Double Cheeseburger out of the dollar menu because McDs loses 10 cents (or something like that) per burger made due to the extra slice of cheese, pretty stupid if you ask me.

I realize it's tough trying to make ends meet these days, but I decided a long time ago that it just wasn't worth it to me to cut corners in the food department.
I love food too much to eat shitty food. I'd rather take the hit in other departments.
Besides, if you were to die right now, would really want Cup o' Noodles + Rooster Sauce to be your last meal?
That said, for the short time I did resort to eating shitty food my diet consisted almost entirely of Hot Pockets and frozen burritos :barf:

Spread non-salted butter on a slice of bread or a crunchy bun of your choice, and put a slice (or as many slices as you want) of ham, bologna, pepperoni, or any meat of your choice on top.
The result is always delicious.
Don't be afraid to add other toppings, such as boiled egg, fresh pepper, cheese, basically whatever you have access to that won't be gross.
Can't go wrong with something like this, plus it's healthy.

In the southeast (and I am not sure if it is like this anywhere else in the country), grocery store specials start on Wednesdays. Naturally, this is ALSO the schedule the use to rotate stock, even in the meat department. In such they try with ALL they can to not have to throw meat away, even if it means marking it down to a quarter of the original price...
On my way home from the gym on Tuesday evenings, I stop in the Food Lion around the corner from my house, and beeline RIGHT for the meat department and look for red tags. I don't eat beef or pork, but those items are tagged as well. Whenever something I want is on sale, I STOCK THE FUCK UP, take it home, open it and vacuum seal it, then place it in the deep freezer until I am ready to cook/eat it. Compared to waiting on specials in the departments, or paying full price, this is THE way to save cash on food.
Also
LEARN TO FUCKING COOK!!!
Seriously, I cooked on Sunday and have been eating twice daily off of that without having to THINK about my stove since, and will not have to until tonight. I spent 23.xx in the stores for supplies, that is $4.60ish a day, less than 3 bucks a meal.
... and on that note...
Don't be afraid of leftovers. Fuck, if you wind up cooking more than you can eat in a sitting, look at how much cash you've shitcanned down through the years because of your aversion to eating what you paid for. Think of it like you taking some broad out, she ordering from the expensive side of the menu, eating a few bites and leaving it without even taking it to home to the dog.

I have such a huge shitton of meat in my freezer for this very reason. If I go to the grocery store and see chicken breast or 93% lean ground beef for $1.99/lb., my freezer is gonna be half full of chicken breast or 93% lean ground beef when I get home.
And we don't really like going out to eat anymore. Because what I cook is usually better, and ALWAYS cheaper, than restaurant food.

1lb fresh chicken tenderloins $5
1 bag frozen rice Kroger has this in teriyaki and spanish flavor $2
1/4 bag organic mixed vegetables (corn, carrots, peas) $2/bag
1 egg scrambled
saute chicken and vegetables seperately, scramble egg, prepare rice in microwave according to package. once everything is cooked just heat in together in the skillet for a couple minutes, you have easy chicken fried rice in 10-15 minutes and should be able to get at least 3 meals out of it.

One of my favorites!!! One of the best things you can do IMO is make simple food and add spices etc to kick things up a notch and stop them from being boring... Right now my favorite thing to do is take something like this grilled ham and cheese and on the inside of the bread (either one or both slices) apply some pepper jelly! You can buy it at damn near any grocery store and the stuff is SOOOOOOO bad ass...

Right now my favorite thing to do is take something like this grilled ham and cheese and on the inside of the bread (either one or both slices) apply some pepper jelly! You can buy it at damn near any grocery store and the stuff is SOOOOOOO bad ass...

YEAH, good condiments are a must alsoooo, even if I spend like 2$/lb on meat ill spend the 4-5$ for good mayo etc to make chicken salad or w.e. But even after awhile just having mustard or mayo gets old so you gotta step it up and keep things interesting

Yeah seriously the Top Ramen guys are insane. Shit will kill you. And it's not even satisfying.
I've started looking at the nutrition facts and I can hardly eat anything anymore. Everything that comes in a package these days is FULL of sodium. Ridiculous amounts. Like 50% of your daily intake from a Cup of Noodles. Ugggh. Sounds like such a good idea but afterward you can feel the fucking sodium all in your mouth. Anything ramnen, or anything you "just add water" to is fucking LOADED with sodium.
Nothing beats a good old Turkey/cheese/pickles/lettuce/pepper on wheat. I can eat those all the time. Sprinkle a little italian salad dressing, just a tiny bit, oh man. Best sandwhich ever, and you dont' feel guilty at all afterward.
I like the suggestions that actually include a recipe, that's what I was expecting of this thread. Some cheap shit that you can cook, make a ton of it and eat it for like 3 days.
Me and my girlfriend made a chicken casserole a while ago that was so good. It was basically some cheap stuffing, chicken breast, a brick of cheese, some butter, cream of brocolli soup and some noodles. Bake it up. Enjoy. Fuck it was so good. Like 30$ and it fed me for 3 days like a KING.
I also love pasta and pasta sauce. If you can find it, Newman's Own Sockarooni is really good sauce, mix it with some cheap italian sausage sauce and some cheap "pasta seasoning mix" shaker and you've got some really fucking good pasta.
I hate my work hours though, I get home at like 3am and can't cook because it'd wake up half the house. I usually have to resort to chips or popcorn at night just so I don't piss off roomates.
PS. Where do you get good sticky rice on the cheap? Or is it just a way of cooking it that makes it all sticky?

Yeah seriously the Top Ramen guys are insane. Shit will kill you. And it's not even satisfying.

PS. Where do you get good sticky rice on the cheap? Or is it just a way of cooking it that makes it all sticky?
everyone should read these two posts again before i tell you why you're all going to die
first and foremost the average human is only supposed to have an intake of 1,500 - 2,400 mg of sodium a day
after your body has had all the sodium it can take (your kidneys deal with sodium) it passes it either to your urine or your blood stream. mostly it goes into your blood stream
as you all know (or don't) sodium is highly retentive of water (remember your chemistry days) the more sodium you have in your blood stream the more water it holds in your stream. this causes excessive pressure on the heart, veins, and arteries also known as high blood pressure (hypertension)
hypertension is the number one cause for kidney disease, heart attack, stroke, and aneurysms
now on to the best part
it is almost impossible to avoid going over the recommended sodium intake with all the foods we eat. almost all foods are fucking loaded with this shit
lets look at a mcdonalds double cheeseburger from the dollar menu
it has 1150 mg of sodium!!!! from one fucking burger you're almost over your limit
and i know one cheeseburger is not filling enough for me i used to eat two of them and bam i was already over my maximum sodium intake
and i also loved to put salt and ketchup and the ketchup is already loaded with sodium too
i'm lucky i didn't die right there and then and this isn't the only case of fast food. almost all prepacked foods, sauces, dressing, and snacks are loaded with sodium
which doesn't even include the horrible fat in fast foods but that isn't as revelant in the cheap bastard meals most of you are eating
so my next order of business is MSG aka monosodium glutamate
which also goes by a tremendous amount of hidden names, being a glutamate, it acts as a neurotransmitter in your body which natural occuring glutamates are good for you. MSG is not a natural one and causes intense harm to your bodies neurological system and body cells (when it reaches your cells it imediately kills them) msg in decent amounts is incredibly toxic
msg is a labeled as food enhancer but really it is enhances nothing! it tricks you brain into thinking the food tastes better than it actaully does and effectively makes you overeat too. why do companies use msg? MONEY it allows them to use cheaper ingredients and not sacrifice flavor by adding more MSG (incredibly cheap) to their products.
here are just a view things MSG causes
CARDIAC: Arrhythmias, Extreme drop in blood pressure, Rapid heartbeat (tachycardia); Angina; Cardiac Arrest Symptoms.
CIRCULATORY: Swelling, Fluid Retention.
NEUROLOGICAL: Depression, Mood Swings, Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD); Dizziness; Light-headedness; Disorientation; Mental Confusion; Anxiety; Panic Attacks; Hyperactivity; Behavioral Problems in Children; Rage Episodes; Lethargy; Sleepiness; Insomnia; Numbness or Paralysis; Migraine Headache; Slurred Speech; Meniere's Disease.
GASTROINTESTINAL: Nausea; Vomiting; Diarrhea; Stomach Cramps; Irritable Bowel; Bloating.
RESPIRATORY: Asthma; Shortness of Breath; Chest Pain; Tightness; Runny Nose; Sneezing.
SKIN: Hives or Rash; Mouth Lesions; Temporary Tightness or Partial Paralysis; Numbness of Tingling of the Skin; Flushing; Sweating ("hot flashes"); Dry Mouth.
UROLOGICAL: Swelling of Prostate; Nocturia.
VISUAL: Blurred Vision; Difficulty Focusing; Temporary Loss of Vision.*
M how do companies get away with adding so much of this poison into our foods? besides listing in under several dozen names, these companies give money to independent researchers or colleges to run slanted tests to show the msg is not harmful. these are then presented to the FDA and companies are allowed to continue to pack their food with msg and their pockets with cash
the amount of msg used in foods since it was introduced to us from eastern asia in world war II has nearly quadrupled and it is almost everything
you're all going to die
thanks for reading

About the sodium imminent death thread. Us young people can pretty much eat all the sodium we want as long as you drink a lot of water on the regular. Thats what your kidneys are for. so yeah, keep it up with the salt, but you really should just try to stay away from it now.
Eggs.
Look for large dozen eggs 10 for $10 sale.

I love how people are still suggesting fast food when a GOOD home cooked meal, even only having to cook twice a week tops for 2 people, will cost you a metric fuckton less, be better for you and taste better.
I am eating no meat for the month of January, so I stocked up on steam-in-bag vegetables/rice from Green Giant and SteamFresh:
Green Giant - Grocery Coupons (http://www.bettycrocker.com/Products/Green-Giant/Whats-New.aspx)
or:
http://img504.imageshack.us/img504/7087/ricexw8.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
http://img504.imageshack.us/img504/ricexw8.jpg/1/w750.png (http://g.imageshack.us/img504/ricexw8.jpg/1/)
The veggies are $1.50 each at Wal Mart, the rice is $1.00...
Also, I stocked up on tomato soup, black beans and chick peas, a couple bags of flour tortillas, cream of celery/mushroom soups, diced onions/peppers, various nuts and even a couple pounds of coffee, various fruits and a few cans of pineapples.
I will eat AT LEAST a week and a half, maybe 2 weeks on this supply, lunch and dinner every day.
Total cash outlay with it all? $42.xx
I am less than worried about sodium intake with what I have placed ahead of myself, and I am quite pleased with the selection of what I will have ahead of me to eat for the next little while.
Yes, that is what I will call 43 bucks to eat 2 meals a day for 14 days, for an average of $1.54 PER meal and I am not forced to ingest fucking ramen noodles and a mountain of fucking sodium in the process.
Could I have done the same thing if I was buying meat (well, the meat I eat, as I don't do beef or pork on months that I DO eat meat)? You bet your ass, especially with my previously stated tactic of hunting/waiting for sales.
LEARN TO FUCKING COOK, PEOPLE!!!

yeah, cooking is by far, cheapest way to go. Heck, you can even eat really good for cheap if you cook.
Only drawbacks of cooking yourself, its somewhat time consuming. And usually if you live alone cooking for yourself gets annoying. Especially when you are eating left overs all the time. Then you think to yourself, how can I eat at hot meal for a couple of bucks more? Fast food. Gets the job done. Of course I wouldnt recommend eating everyday.

did you know that sandwich is not as bad as it seems.
Take out the cheese and mayo, a quarter of the fat is gone.
Add some lettuce to it, dont eat most of the bread. ..
All you are left with is good protein, some preservatives, sodium, and some fat from the meats. Its not that bad, I ate it like everyday for 2 years. Lost 20 lbs
For fast food, stay away from SODA and sugar drinks, little to no fries, DONT OVER EAT, and make sure you have veggies in your diet. I recommend the Mcds Premium salad with grill chicken or crispy chicken. Dont drench in ranch or any sort of dressing. Its not necessary, dress is for flavor, not to get fat off of.
I seriously was on the mcds diet for 2 years(cuz i worked there nearly full time). I went from 170lbs to 150lbs
Of course I ate some rice at home once in awhile. But 80% of my diet was mcds. If made my version of supersize me, the world would be different. And mcds would probably sponsor me lol, like how subway did for that Jared guy

On another note... regarding eating cheap
in china...(Im actually chinese, im from china, and I know this for a fact).
Farmers are super poor. No luxury of a rice cooker or electricity.
Know what they eat every day? Plain white rice, with soy sauce and spicy chilli sauce.
Maybe some veggies like boiled bok choi. Meat is a luxury there...mr Kdashy knows exactly what im talking about, he just visited that part of china last summer.
If you are serious weight conscience and is seriously cheap, go the the asian supermarket, get a big bag of rice, rice cooker, soy sauce, chili sauce, some taiwanese bok choi, and go on this diet. Its low in protein, but you will be full and skinny, and full of sodium
Got some extra change? Get the low sodium soy sauce, get some milk and peanut better for protein.
You are officially a cheap bastard, and you are living off of bare necessities.

1) one or two packets of ramen noodles- the spicy one but if you dont like spicy anyother is fine just be aware what it might taste like afterward
2) boil the noodles as usual, but after you're done boiling keep flame on low while straining the water out of pot using fork to keep noodles in
3)get one tablespoon of butter/ margarine and dump it into pot
4) return to flame and stir around- you'll notice the consistency will thicken, so only keep it at the flame til it starts to thicken as you'll see it starts to get sticky as well
5) immediately dump it into bowl and add the powder chili or other flavor to noodles, but be sure to add it while flipping noodles over, other wise you'll have a whole lot of flavor on one portion of the noodles
6) if you did the chili flavored one then your noodles should come out orange and the creamy chicken should become the same color as the noodles
dont think you're done yet......you need to rinse that pot otherwise the left over noodles will stick to the pot
usually one packet will be enough for me to get full, but sometimes your just so damn hungry for another
enjoy

Thanks to the internet now I'll never go hungry when I'm broke, all I'll need is to get a hold of two girls and a cup.
