i did post this in s2ki but i been with zilvia for so long haha, so i was wondering if some good loven zilvians would help me out on this problem
i own a 2000 Honda S2000 completely stock.
so a week ago after waking up i took my car out and was heading out to work
then pulling out of my drive way i realized my car wouldn't go pass 3,000 RPMS
so the whole way to work (thank god my work is 2 miles away) im shifting below 3 the entire way in every gear and it tops out at 56mph at 6 gear!?
i brought it to a near by shop the next day
they scanned and diagnose it and said it was the MAP sensor
so yesterday i unplugged my battery reseted the ecu and then plugged my battery in and started it...
i revved it and still did not go pass 3k
i unplugged the battery once more and then went to sleep hoping to wake up and see if that was enough time to reset the ECU... that didn't do and im down 80 bucks and my car still isn't working right...
anyone have a clue on what the problem is?

Wait, you replaced your ECU but the shop said it was your MAP sensor? I'm confused.

Wait, let me get this straight. A shop told you it's the MAP sensor and you "reset" the ecu and you automatically think that will solve the problem. I'm assuming you have a check engine light if not they must have seen it in "pending" under OBDII. I would ask any local s2000 ppl in your forum if you can swap MAP's to see if that clears it up. Goodluck!

Maybe the MAP sensor is bad?

Well i replaced it first... and still did the same then i unplugged the battery for about a hour to see if it would work... it still didn't,
they did plug in the OBDII and scanned the car..
it came out to say that it was the map sensor...
if that wasnt the problem what can be...

When My friend Had a s2k, if it wasnt warmed up it wouldn't go past a certain rpm. but don't remember. just an idea.

You should be able to reset it with a OBDII tool right?

Do a search on any Honda forum to see if there's related symptoms to a MAP code. I recently worked on a Civic that showed a random cylinder misfire code, turned out the coil was bad but I didn't get that code at all. Just like on our cars, a knock sensor code doesn't mean you've got a bad knock sensor, it's just related to the problem, like a MAF, O2, etc. I'd suspect a MAP code could relate to numerous other things, even as far as a bad tank of gas. You might also bribe a Honda tech to plug in a more sophisticated scanner and get a real time analysis versus a cheap OBD reader.

You put a fucking duralast map sensor in your fucking s2k!!!??? Are you retarded? Go to the fucking dealer for an important sensor like that. The shitty duraghey part is probably no good. Return that shit to vatozone (if you can) and get the right god damn part. Then reset the ECU with a scan tool, you know the correct way rather then the cheap ass way. Fuck I understand cheaping out on a 240, i still don't condone it though, but on a fucking s2k??? Don't be a cheap douche with a $15k-$20k car.

I worked at Autozone for a few months a while back and I would never buy anything electrical related from them. We had a high rate of customers come back the same day because the part was bad out of the box.

Run a test on the original MAP sensor see if it is really bad. If found to be good then move on to the TPS or AIT. Theres only a handful of sensors that can affect drivability. Make sure ALL vacum lines are intact and not leaking/torn.

Exactly, I've seen many electrical parts from Autozone come bad out of the box. Out of about 25 Honda dizzys, I've only seen 2 actually work. :duh:

Is it me or does it seem like every damn nissan forum have former shitty ass honda owners? *shrug* Put fork in valve cover, let it sit for 10 minutes, turn car to ACC, check time, write time down, crank car. Quick honda fix :madfawk:

Invest in a S2000 FSM.
Invest in a OBDII code scanner if you have a OBDII car.
Buy Sensors from a Dealer(online or local).
If you have an OBD-II car a Scan tool is a part you must have if you are going to do any work on it. They are $50 now and sometimes $20 on sale. You can pick up tips for scanning other peoples cars if you want to recoup the cost. It will pay for itself the fist time you don't go to a shop for repairs.
FSM should have trouble shooting work flows for every code the ecu will throw. Just follow the directions to which code you threw. Like was said earlier, the problem is not always the label on the code.
I had to fix a car where they kept giving me the evap sensor not the MAP sensor. Claiming the whole time it was the right one. Dealership finally figured it out.

Map and TPS sensors are usually on the same V-ref circuit and it is easy for a car with a bad map sensor to have the ecu squawking about the tps and vice versa.
This is especially common on jeep 4.0 liter engines where a bad map sensor throws a tps code of low voltage.
Have a tech connect a scan tool and print out the freeze frame data then present it here.
