Me and a close friend of mine are constantly making fun of each other nonstop about our cars. He talks tall trash often and i just counter back. He drives a 99 GLE automatic stock. I will soon have a 1997 240sx 5 speed stock.

The specs are as follows;

Max - 195hp/200 torque, 3000lbs, 1/4 time - 15.6 (according to numerous websites) just rounded numbers, pretty close to accurate.

240 - 155 horses/160 torque, 2769lbs, 1/4time - 16.1

Again those numbers are rated and may not be wat they are the day I race him. Both are stick but the big difference is that hes auto and Im stick, Hopefully, ill be as good of a driver that day as I'll ever be, any tips on taking him? The wether should be around 60-70 f, warm, and all clear. Thx for the inputs.

Last time I checked 15.6 was faster than 16.1....so there you go. BUT....You can probably beat him though if you are an insane driver and the other guy totally sucks at driving. If you've never driven a stick though, you can expect to get your ass handed to you.
Why do we have all of these topics lately..."Can my car beat a XXXX?"
I mean seriously people, just race these people (at the track of course). Do you just ask on this board because you're afraid of losing and are just trying to get a reassurance?
edit: Oooops, didn't see the Max was an AT.

Umm... it's auto v. manual.
With a .2 second difference between manual v. manual, I'd say that you'll win. If their auto sucks as bad as a 240sx auto, then you'll win by about a second, provided you can drive worth anything.

GAH!! NO MORE "CAN I BEAT" TOPICS!!!

We can't answer those for you, we don't know how well you drive, the condition of your car, how well your opponent drives, the condition of his car. Refer to the numbers and there is your probability.

I'll just say you don't stand a rats chance in hell of beating him, because that is about as useful an answer as you will be able to get on the subject. Don't really mean to sound as rude as I am, it's just that these topics come up all the time and there is absolutely no way we can tell you what chance you have.

Also, keep in mind it really doesn't matter who you are faster than, it only matters that you enjoy doing what you do :-)

Do what my brother does to cars to beat them....open the passenger side window and throw stuff at his car till he swervs of so his car doesn't get hit!:D Then say he pussied out of it cause you were gonna win!:p

(Please don't take this seriously and try it.... )

Basically what everyone else is saying. If you are good at stick and he just sucks at driving then you could win.

Umm for tips, lets see:
1. Sneak in his car and put a shirt or rag under his pedal, this way he can't floor it.
2. Get a bucket of water and put the water in front of his tires.
3. Break his leg.
4. Open his gas tank, get a hose, shove it in there, suck and drain, then fill with water.
5. Slash his tires.
6. Put blocks in front of his tires.

I could keep going on, but it is a pointless battle, there is no way of giving you a definate answer to this question. Way too many facotrs, races are based upon skill, the car, conditions, and those 3 can be broken down into so many little groups. I could beat your car in my camry if you miss a gear, or if your part of the road is slippery.

Only way to find out is race.
