I bought a timing light today to check the timing on my KA24DE. So, the timing alignment pin reads 0. I believe it should read 20. So, I tried to increase the timing but the adjustment was maxed out. Any idea what's wrong, and how to fix it?

Did you unplug the throttle pos sensor before starting?

Ok, my bad. I did forget to unplug the TPS, but now that I did unplug it the timing still looks to be off over 5 degrees.

So it's maxed out between 10 - 15 degrees BTDC? It's possible that the distributor was not installed correctly last time. It might be off by a tooth. Have you had any services that required removal of the distributor done?

Pull the distributor and reinstall. It's aligned wrong. I had the same problem a while back.

Well, I haven't had the car very long, so the previous owner may have removed it.

Sorry for my lack of knowledge, but how do I align the distributor correctly?

You set #1 piston to TDC compression. Then remove the distributor assembly, line up the marks on the shaft, and reinstall it.
