Ill keep it short. The crank is on the second timing mark and I got 20 links in between dots on sprocket, 5 on intake side and 8 1/2 on exaust but I can not get the sprocket to sit flat because the pin wont line up. What does this mean and what can I do?

sorry sr20det s13 kouki, but now it is weird. Forgot to say this was after a head gasket swap. I got both the sprockets on and now its like this
The middle section between the two sprockets is only 18
The exaust side is 9 1/2
the intake is 7
How do I fix this. It seems like the only way to fix it is to turn the cams. should I?

One other thing I have a crack on my cam. It goes from the little tab that goes on the sprocket to the back of the part the tab is on. It crack from me trying to tighten the sprocket on the cam.:bash: Do you think I should use it or try to buy another?

Pull the tensioner out and loosen the cam bolt, get it seated tighten down. If you cant, mark cam position, remove cam, bolt up sprocket, re-install camshaft.

I wish I would have read this like a couple of hours ago. I will try that next time. The only thing is I still dont see how I am going to get the chain to strech, but I will try it.

first off it's called a Timing Chain....not belt

Dude, you sound like you have really fucked up. I would definitely replace that cam; if that fucker lets go in there, you're done. Secondly make sure you have the front most cam lobes opposing each other. You sound like you don't have an FSM either so I would strongly recommend getting one of those before you really mess something up.

I'm hoping you marked where the cam sprocket dots met the chain. Since the silver links only line up once in a blue moon (there is a number of revolutions before it lines up again, I just don't know what that is). If not, I'm not exactly sure what you can do since estimating the chain length from the crank sprocket will inevitably leave you a few degrees off.

If you are confident the mech. timing is correct, then I would reference the FSM for the proper way to attach the cam to the sprocket.

I have decided to just replace the cams and just upgrade to some s3 cams. I spinned the motor about 30 times and wiped off every chain link and I could not find 3 different colored links.
So I called enjuku and the guy said as long as I put the motor at TDC (pointer on second mark) and had 20 links in between the dots on the sprockets and 5 links on the intake side to the top of the motor and 8 1/2 links on the exaust side, it would be in good timing. What I will try to do is tighten up the cam last after the sprocket is on and it is in the chain. Think this will work. I am going to be away for a week so im just going to get different ideas.

you could also be off one way or the other, with the tensioner in it will pull the chain the the intake side very tight so you could have 20 rollers in the middle but still be off when the chain is tight. My marks never lined up, it doesnt really matter as long as ur at TDC and you mark the roller position before hand. I took a bunch of pics of when I did mine and if you want them pm me. It might help u.
