Opinions?
Thoughts?

I'm thinking of picking up a 2001 IS300
Automatic
130K miles
Greddy Evo exhaust
Altezza grill
Tein Basic coils

guy is asking $9,500

I thought it was a good price.

I was gonna pick it up for a nice daily that i could take anywhere, and have it be NICE. Most likely just do a intake shave the badges and put some differant wheels on the car. I know it won't be very quick, but seeing how i'm building a 2JZ'd S13 with the women, i don't need anything fast. just thought it would be nice.

Just wanted to see what you guys thought of the cars?

price sounds good. its comfy. probably pretty reliable. id put the stock exhaust back on though. dd's dont need loud exhausts imo. but do whatever you want to it.

mileage is rather high though. *shrug* probably explains the low price.

manual is300's seem to be very rare, but i'd hold out for a stick. i will never buy another automatic car, this acura is the most ho-hum boring driving.

Yeah, i know the mileage is about at the most i would want. But my buddy has a SC300 w/275K miles and it's still drivin strong. And i've seen Alot of 130K+Mileage MKIV supra's so i'd think it should still be good.

I'm not too sure how fond i will be of the Greddy exhaust on it either, but it could be nice.

Yes they are very rare, But i'm not sure i would want a manual Daily car, Never had to daily a 5spd car.....not sure i'd be a big fan.

01 automatic are known to have a lot of problem. try to find a 02+ IS300. 01 is300 don't even come with armrest

manual IS300 are certainly worth it, it is much funner and 02-04 manual came with stiffer spring, carbon tail light and wheels, and LSD. i drive my manual IS300 in LA traffic just fine....

I know a few people that went form S chassis to IS300's. They all love them. Smooth ride (stock suspention), good power, and auto tranny is smooth as crap so the ladies can sit back and enjoy the ride.....Did I mention they are quiet on the highway too :)

--There is tons of aftermarket support for them too, sooo easy to find parts in the future.

hmm i'll have to look into that. Thanks.

I just thought for the $9,500 he is asking if i can get it for 9, or $8,700. It would be nice. cause i think a Nice 02-04 Would be 10-18K and for that much i'd rather look into the 00-02 Audi S4....

Idk i will look into it. Thanks for the info though. Do you know what kind of problems?

That's what i like the Aftermarket, like i said some nice wheels, and some more suspension goodies it would be nice. Maybe even a NA-T kit? but i don't know. Thanks for the input.

i cannot remember exactly what are problems of 01 because i have not been to IS300 forums for a while. check out my.IS - Lexus IS Forum (http://my.is/) for more information. i just remember i read about the ECU, stereo, and transmission issue about 01 before.

my 02 has 70k miles and have not had any major problem yet besides one faulty oxygen sensor (that sucker got 4 of them) and air condition gets slightly warm compare to before. all power window or lock still functions well unlike bmw lol. my manual is300 gets about 22 mpg very consistently and i think automatic would get about 20 average. all females (young or old) loves it

i brought mine used in 06 with 49k miles

they're not very rare, they were made for like 3 years after the car was released, it's just finding an is300 for less than 15k+ is rare.

I think you should wait for a stick one nick.

You know that's why I bailed cause its so hard to find one in stick and now why Im leaning towards wrx's.

But they are nice cars, but rwd in winter can be interesting especially on the highway cover with ice.

hahah you guys have snow there :p

Thanks guys, There's lots of good info here.

I think i'm gonnna go look at the car up close this week.
I did some more searching on Craigslist and saw an ad 2 weeks ago with the same car for 11K with some work wheels. The person said he wanted a better car for winter. So i wonder if he traded the car in to that dealership or another one and they got it through a auction. So i'm gonna get ahold of him and see what he got for the car. And work from there.

Yeah, definately a good buy.

My wifey has an 04 IS 300 Auto in Graphite. Its a very comfortable and sporty car for a daily. The Auto trans is a bit sluggish (hesitation/lag when mashing the throttle), but thats my ONLY complaint about the car.

Yeah. i think they only made 2000? or 3000 Sportcrosses (wagons) So i could only imagine how tricky it is to find a 5spd one.

I believe sportscross (wagon) only comes with automatic model. however, it also comes with staggered wheels and different front bumper.

a manual model with white body color is also very very rare, i only seen one so far.

mileage is high, my 96 S14 only has 112k miles on it.Not really. The average person drives 15k +/- years per year. So that puts the prior owner of that car right around the average.

The mileage on your s14 just happens to be low.

That's not what I remember reading. The way I calculate it is 10K is whats supposed to be normal. 12K is the real average. 15K is the more extreme of the average....if that makes any sense.

What I always wonder if people calculate it from the year the car was made or the year its tagged with. A car made at the second half of '03 is tagged as a '04 model for instance.

But what it comes down to is this. If you're gonna be laying down $10K or $100K the car better be worth that (or more if you're getting a bargain) and you should be comfortable with the mileage and condition.

True.

But it really depends on the buyer.

I wouldn't buy a new used car with over 50k personally.

NO do not!

i bought a 95 s14 from there

(it was the only clean car on the lot)

and the fucker put in a smaller battery causing my alternator to fry

guy is a total prick rip off central

place is a piece of shit in the slums of china town

his little bitch cockboy helper was hitting on my girlfriend while i was looking at the car
Your from Chicago? No idea.

as far as the mileage, when i found the car it was posted twice on CL. once by a dealer and a few days prior by the original owner. Guy said he drove 45-50Miles 1 way to work every day on the freeway so i could understand the miles.

how much did you pay if you don't mind me asking? i'm looking at a 05 auto with 35k on it, they're asking 17,900 but i was going to offer 15k and see what happens.

also which intake and headers are those?

long story short i paid 14k, the dealership had two of them one sport design (they were asking 19,900 for) and the regular one, same color and interior colors were the same. well, i got them down to 14k for the regular one (which was in worse shape) and they sent the guys to grab it and wash it, after the paperwork was all done i went out side to drive away and noticed some dents were no longer there, i opened it up and noticed the carbon fiber trim kit and thought they added it, then i realized the car washers brought the wrong car and the salesman sent someone else to grab the vin off of it and he obviously didnt realized the mistake either lol...checked the paperwork and no shit they accidentally sold me the sport design version for 14k... they called a couple days later after they realized it and asked if i would come back and switch out, they were dicks though the whole time, so i politley told them no.

oh btw, the headers/y pipe combo are made by mazzuri racing and the intake is a swift racing technologies (srt) and it comes with a ecu chip thats plug and play. on the is forums you can find back to back dyno runs and proof.

Nice work on that one, i found the swift intake already. Mazzuri just closed its doors from what i've read so their header may be hard to find.

I went and drove one tonight, very smooth drivetrain and i liked it alot but the interior didn't feel as nice as my 05 TSX. they wanted way too much too, 19,900 for a 05 even with under 30k miles.

if it was me i would hold out and find a manual one with less miles for less money.

but i would look around a little more.

01 automatic are known to have a lot of problem. try to find a 02+ IS300. 01 is300 don't even come with armrest

manual IS300 are certainly worth it, it is much funner and 02-04 manual came with stiffer spring, carbon tail light and wheels, and LSD. i drive my manual IS300 in LA traffic just fine....

not all manuals came with smoked tails. that was only L-tuned and some other model.
but thats not all manuals.

my buddy drives a 6-speed one w/ intake and 3" exhaust.

its LOUD as FUCK lol but he likes it.

they are real nice cars, i LOVE the dash setup. plus its got the lexus factor= p-magnet
what IS came with a 6speed?

did he do a v160?
they're not very rare, they were made for like 3 years after the car was released, it's just finding an is300 for less than 15k+ is rare.

that's a good price, i used to have an auto is300. great daily driver with no balls!

go look on my.IS you can many IS for sale. you can find a a turbo one for 13 right now. and you can find a 5seep with 75k and a bunch of mods for 7,900 obo.
I hate IS300's. To me they're just an expensive civic with ugly tail lights. But thats just my opinion and you can buy it if you want to. goodluck.
lol hah yeah your right about the tails. they are horribly ulgy.
If I could find one for that price around here I would buy it.

all day long for cheeper.

My.IS. You can many them.

hahaha. I had to...

Honestly, my.is is a shitpile of a forum.

I haven't posted on there in forever. Those guys are stubborn and jerk each other off worse than nico.

Only a handful of people were worthwhile on that forum.

And those people joined zilvia/zt.

interesting, so what do i have? it is 02 intensa blue but not L-tune or sports design, but it has LSD, graphite tail light and wheels. as far as i remembered, there are only non sports design model and sports design model available, so what are other models are out there? I thought i read somewhere that manual model comes with a package with those stuffs.

clublexus.com is another one but as posted above IS forums are pretty shitty, its like talking to a bunch of little kids who jock each other.

Smoked tails came on 03+ darker colored cars also I think

some came with the TRD package. it kinda sounds like it was a special order car. some guy liked those things and bought it.

dont know. but not all manuals came with that.
