I was driving my 89 hatch 2 nights ago when it started acting up on me.
The car was running like it was out of gas but i had a full tank.
It was bucking in every gear and would not get up past 10 mph.
I barely made it home, pulled in my driveway and the car died and would not start back up.
So yesterday i went out and bought a new battery. the car started up and ran amazing for about 3 hours until i went to work at 12. i got out at 6 and my car was doing the same thing again..
when it starts to act up the headlights and my dash lights get dim like there is no power.. I dont know where to start.
Someone give me some advice PLEASE.the car is stock with a ka24e

I had a similar problem a month or so ago. Check your alternator.

Cool deal man.
It's best to remove it from the bottom. Just takes some massaging around the fan shroud, but at least then you don't have to undo anything else.

I had to change mine out on the side of the road once. Took me 45 min, but I was able to do it without disconnecting the radiator hoses. I also worked on it while the car was on the ground, which made it more of a PITA.

Anyway, get it changed and check your fusible links before starting the car up.

look for the big ass 75A fuse, should have a window on it....check to see if the metal is still attached, like a regular fuse... OR touch one end to the + on the battery, and touch the other end with your tongue (it works trust me *cough*), anyway...use a multimeter, if applicable...and continuity check it. should read 1-2.

update: I got the new alternator yesterday and put it in. The car still wont start on its own though, I jump started it and drove around and it ran amazing. I checked the 75A fuse for the alternator and it was ok. My battery is brand new. Is there any way my battery was drained while the old alternator was in it? or did i get ripped off and buy a broken alternator??

I know the alternator was my problem because when my old alternator was in and i jump started it the motor would die as soon as the jumper cables were disconnected.. now when i jump start it the motor stays on when i disconnect the cables. anyone have any ideas??

Thats because your battery is still dead from the old alternator.

Give it a new charge and you should be good to go.

I also have a quick question, there is a yellow wire next to my alternator, is it supposed to connect to anything, its spliced so im not sure where it would go, I also have this same problem and I bought a new battery and alternator.
