Hey guys, had a question before leaving for Japan.
I bought some coilovers and GTR calipers off of yahoo auctions and had them shipped to my house in Japan. So I'm thinking about putting them in my two large suitcases when I come back in January. Weight limit isn't going to be a problem as I already have a general idea how much they will weigh.
Question is will they let me check-in my luggage with such items?
Has anyone had experience going through the airport with these things?
Thanks for any info

when your briefcase, that is a case for briefs, goes through the metal detector and they see four heavy,
metal cylinders in it, what do you think is going to happen?
i'm not sure what any other country's airports are like, but here you'd definitely get pulled out of line and questioned about them. they may even refuse to let you bring them on the plane with you, and you'll have to choose between eating the ticketor eating the suspension.
bring it with you - risk, but free
ship them - no risk, but costs money
there can only be one.....

Im sure it would be a problem with carry on luggage. But as far as I have seen at most airports, you go through the metal detectors after checking luggage.

I've had visitors from Japan bring in coilovers with their luggage, but I have no idea if they did something special to get them through. I just thought they stuffed in their briefcase, and if they got stopped, they would just show the invoice.

How long ago was this? Pre 9/11 and high security?
I might ask my airline company to see what they think, and possibly have them give me a statement or what not

Okay I was looking at TSA's website and found this
TSA: Prohibited Items (http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm)
Im guessing if guns, swords and other things are okay as long as they are checked, coils and calipers wouldn't be much of a problem?

you will be fine
believe me
why not just put them under the plan instead of carry on. i thinks checking weight limit is 75lbs or something before you have to pay.

i went through the airport with an exhaust manifold, to4r turbo, some coilpacks and some other stuff... the only thing they were checking for was if there were any hazardous material visible. after they checked my stuff out, they re-packed it and let me on my way...

LOL at the habusake. That stuff WILL grow hair on your chests.
From this, it seems like I will be okay as long as I don't go over the weight limit and check the luggage at the counter.
yup,but make sure you rap a safc around the coilovers..it deflects JDM X-ray machines!lol

True. But I don't think they will look that close. I should just peel the little warning sticker off just incase ha

My dad accidentally brought a huge knife in his carry-on. He didn't even know he left it in there until we got home.

Leaving the Fort Myers Airport in Florida we got stopped in security for having an unopened box of Velveeta in our luggage. TSA told us it's the same consistency as plastic explosive and shows up as it on their machine.
